Bestest Black?

I was just thinking about my GD entry and need to paint a couple of bits black. These are "cross-section" cut-aways rather than a piece of the actual miniature (in this case a pipe that runs front to back across the base and I'm just going to block off the back end).

I've nearly always gone for bog standard GW Chaos Black (in more recent years airbrushed on) and know that "pure black" is a bit of a holy grail (along with pure white). Just wondering if any of the newer Citadel paints or other manufacturers are producing a paint that would be considered "blacker" than the Chaos Black I've got?

I personally partaken to the Reaper Master Series Black Primer (09214). Great coverage, as black as black can go with paints.

Most blacks are going to be pretty similar (in terms of their blackness) there are really only slight differences between one and the next at the end of the day. The thing that makes a lot of difference in the dry appearance is surface gloss - the more matt a paint is unfortunately the lighter it'll be. So using whatever blacks you have one way to make it/them darker is just to give them a slight satin finish rather than dead matt.

Cheers for the comments & link. After talking with the other half I think I've decided not to do a cutaway now, but I think I'll have to look up some other blacks at some point!
