I was contacted by rick dunn from rochester new york who read my add on bartertown looking for painters for trade. made a agreement to paint figs for me for trade I sent him $200 worth of out print figs like TMNT, gamma world, shadowrun etc to be painted and paid him in dwarfs and historical figs he painted and returned a small portion of them. the work was slightly below average but then he claimed he mailed them and didnt have them when I requested them back recieved nonthing after several months of bugging him he mysteriously got them back and said he would remail them if i paid postage and gave him a apology I paid postage and said I would apologze for bugging about returning my property if he returned them still nonthing and no longer responds to my emails. I quess I was right he is being dishonest lying to me keeping my property and his responses were very immature also even though he kept payment for nonthing done and my personal property avoid this guy at all costs! I have several good references with numerous other painters and over 5000 positive comments on ebay as robsfigs so Its pretty obvious who the one is at fault on all this not to mention I have his emails as proof too!

That\'s really unfortunate! People like that guy give can really put people off dealing with other folks over the net. We\'re not all shits though!

I\'ve found the vast majority of people I\'ve dealt with over the net to be very helpful, polite and trusting. However, there are some who could learn a little more about internet etiquette! Such as replying to personal e-mails sent requesting payment or information, or just sending payment on time! Some folks do seem to think that because they can\'t see you or speak to you they don\'t have to treat you like a normal human being! They just want to press the button that says \'pay now\' (or not in some cases:mad:), receive their goods and f**k any other contact be it to give/request important information or just a pleasantry!

I\'m sorry to hear of your woes. Personally, I\'d never send somebody figures I couldn\'t easily replace, such as OOP figs. I mean, it looks like the guy just decided to keep the ones he liked, right? (and send some back to confuse and delay you!)

I\'d suggest you consider going after him for mail fraud. You know where you sent the items, contact the postal service, they get very upset when people use the USPS to committ fraud, and there\'s all kinds of nasty penalties. I\'d also inform the person in question that that was what you were doing, and see if that doesn\'t make him send things back to you right quickly (mail fraud can be punishable by jail time after all, and I doubt he\'d want that in exchange for a few OOP figs).

Just remembered a case similar to yours over here in the UK! It turned out that this guy had ripped off quite a few people, either making off with their money or figures sent as trades. Some of his customers found that the best thing to do was to contact HIS local police station and tell them what this guy had done. I don\'t know whether the police looked into the matter, but it worked for some of them!

Unfortunately, it would probably cost more than the $200 you lost to have an attorney pursue your lost property. You have the guy\'s address, so you know where he lives. If you\'ve got money to blow and want to get the guy for the sake of \"principle\", then have an attorney write this joker a demand letter. Make him think twice about doing it again.
Next time I\'d ask for references, and only send one or two minis at a time to be painted until you establish some trust.

Got Jacked?

Dewd, that sucks. It sounds to me like paintme is right on the money, tho. I\'d start out slowly dealing with someone new, and then once they\'ve proven themselves I\'d bump up the amount of figs I\'d send \'em.

Best of luck getting it resolved!

Isn\'t this \"Maul Fraud\" activity regarded as a Federal offense?. Being that the case, I\'d think either the US Post, or the New York Police would have to investigate and prosecute the reports...

You have the address. Why not get four friends, drive over there and be extremely polite. Explain that, since you were passing, you\'d stop by to save the postage costs. See how well he talks in a corner.
(note: whatever you do, don\'t beat the crap out of him. It\'s a bad, bad thing to do)

dodgy rick dunn the wrong thing.....

I\'m truly sorry to hear that some shifty sod has done you wrong!!! However as corny as this sounds \'what goes around comes around\'. How can this guy possibly enjoy painting a miniature by which he deviously attained?? Guilt may be punishment enough. Believe me there are still good and honest people living in this world :)
