Greetings CMON. Here is my first attempt at a display quality miniature. While I still have many things to improve upon I believe that I have really stepped up the quality of my painting from most of my other miniatures.

The miniature is one of Tre Manor's Boneback Goblins from his fantastic line of miniatures from Red Box Games (http://www.red-box-games.com). As you can see from the picture this miniature is very tiny, not much larger than a US penny, yet it was a joy to paint and although very detailed, painting went smoother than many larger miniatures I have painted, so thank you Tre for producing such fine sculpts!!

This was my first attempt at a display base. The stumpy tree is a twig from my campsite and the plants are various mosses preserved with glycerin and a little static grass added to the clearing the goblin is standing in. This was my first attempt at weathering metallics and oxidization. The blade is rusty and has verdigris on it, which I think I did a decent job on. This was also my first attempt at blood on a weapon and this was achieved with Tamiya clear red paint and black inks and a coat of gloss varnish.

I have rambled enough, I hope you enjoy my miniature very much and please feel free to leave comments. Thanks!

Good work on a tiny mini. A few crits that stand out for me

first, I think a spray of matte varnish would help a LOT

Second, for the main photos, you don't need to include the whole plinth, just the top would suffice. We could see the mini clearer then

I also think you could do with building up the highlights ands shades more
slowly so you get a smoother transition ATM it seems to go from shade to highlight without much in between

also, all the shading seems to be pure black/ very dark. Some of the shallower recesses wouldn't be pure black but a lighter shade

all in all a cute little mini though and a great base

Hi Mercius, that's one of Tre Manor's Boneback Goblins yes? Nice work. As Freak says, a quick blast over with a matte varnish will benefit it hugely. I'd suggest dabbing some thin washes of various dull colurs over the static grass to give it less of a neat lawn appearance. Your twig is very fat! Dried roots are the thing I've read as being superior to twigs, get digging! A few more highlights on his face wouldn't go amiss, just a touch of colour to the nose & bottom lip should help it to stand out from the rest of the scene.

It's a nice ambitious display piece, keep up the good work :good:

Cheers, B.

Thank you for the kind comments and great ideas BPI. It is indeed one of Tre Manor's bonebacks. I have not heard of dried roots, but I will definately look into that. I got the rest of the plants out at my camp site that I own, and behind my shed there are some nice places to dig for things, small plants and trees and lots of mosses. I totally agree on the grass, I added it last minute to avoid a large open bare spot, but after sitting on it for 2 days I feel it wasthe wrong choice, I will have to see what I can do.
