BIG display bases

Hi there all,

Im on the lookout for a very large display base at the moment, which needs to be about 50x50 cms wide

It does not particlarly matter about he shape of the actaully edges, for eg, they could be verticle, curved, whetever, but it does need to be square and about 50x 50cms

something like..THIS..but bigger (im sure shinjikun1 wont mind me borrowing the pic )

Also i dont mind if it is in a different colour or materail, as long as its strong enough, if anyone knows ANY suppliers either internet based or uk based retailers it would be a help,

if not are there tutorials around on how to make ure own display bases, surely its not as simple as mitring 4 pieces of wood???

I just cut a piece of 3/4 stock (1x4, 1x8. etc) the size I need, then router the edge. I like to use the Roman bit, it gives it a nice finished shelf-edge.

Or if you dont own a router you can try a craft store, I know Michaels has a large supply of different size and shape wood plaques that make really nice bases.

Home Depot also sells something similar, in oak or pine in their moulding dept, or a couple in their lumber dept. that are really post caps.

and Epicast might have something.

That could be done with 4 pieces of wood and a good chop saw, but it looks like a prefab picture frame. You buy a pair for the width and a pair for the height, then stick them together.

What I have done in the past is to buy some picture frame moulding from a DIY store and just cut it to the exact size I need. Then instead of a picture and some glass, you just put in a piece of plywood to fit, stain and varnish and \'Bob\'s your Uncle\'. You need to be able to cut accurate 45 degree angles, but that\'s about as technical as it gets.

Not cheap but well worth the cash.

I saw them as well jeez they are nice I am on the order trail cause it really looks worth the shipping $ to try one. I know from work YEW is a very beautiful wood.

Hi, thanks a lot For all the responses, the Website with bases is brilliant and i think i\'m going to buy a few from there, however i went on the lookout yesterday and found just what i was looking for, a couple of picture frames in the correct style, for a 5er each on sale, so i\'ve managed to take them apart and the idea worked perfectly, Cheers again Guys you\'re all so helpful
