Thanks for all the comments guys! I like the whole green energy crystal idea for necrons, so I decided to create a set of (harsh) terrain with my version of the raw crystal from which they create their power source. standing alone it isn\'t as impressive as it is in the diorama...
ok, I made it of 2\" thick pink foam. the basic shape, i used a steak knife to cut the hole in it (my sword was a bit big, would have been more fun though :bouncy: ) then I used a hot wire to cut it.Contantly moving the cutter back and forth. Go too fast and it gets \"hairy\" too slow and it looks shaky. I just kept tweaking until I liked it. As for paint, I coated it with a household primer for dificult surfaces because foam is a bit \"oily\" and gw stuff just isn\'t good enough. then started with black and kept getting lighter and lighter through dark angels green, up to scorpion green. the lighter I got, the thinner I got the paint too. first attempt at color washes, and I didn\'t even know it! then I added some veins in it too, just cause it needed it. light source is from the outside, this one is \"dead\" I may try one that is lighted from the inside...:flip: I also have plans for a tranformer station/supercomputer/borglike/building thingy
