Big Mek Challenge: Uberdark vs Kulandini (both done!)

Da battle fer da Deff Dreadz!

Some time ago crazy mekaniak Uberdark was looking for someone to compete with in a big mek challenge. I got into orks after seeing the waaagh off Sukigod -vs- Uberdark so I knew it was my destiny to challenge the master himself.
Both of us will be showcasing our builds and paintjobs here and over at Da Waaagh.

Da rules:
- wysiwyg
- It\'s got to be a deff dread. (duh)
- scratchbuilt and kitbashed.
- judging: grading over the piece as a whole when finished.
- time: sept. 1st to oct. 1st.

When we are both done one of us will start a new threat with a poll were you can vote on your favourite dread.
I\'m really looking forward to it.

anyhow.... mine is based on ed-209 and i will be posting pics on here this evening.

I present you my sekret deff dread blooprintz!


Ok, so I\'m aiming for a heavy, killy looking dread. the front (or part of it) can be removed so you can see the ork pilot. Still have to find a place to put the secondary weapons (big shoota\'s for example).

Did some work:

The pink stuff is just to hold the parts together.
I started with the inside of the dread (It\'s still very WIP).
I\'ll add lots of gubbins, wires and stuff later.
Suggestions on the idea/build as a whole are most welcome.

well since i am taking on morfangdakka\'s krooza squig in a month i best be getting to work.

kulandini: the idea of an ork taking a bath in a deff dread just intrigues me. i dont know if you have considered this, but imagine the outside all killy and on the inside he\'s got a shower cap on and has no idea that this is happening. he was just taking a shower and next thing you know the shower stall was picked up by a mek and thrust into a deff dread. :lol

as for mine. well i played aorund last night with the build. the cardboard took a decent amount of time, but the legs and scale were what perplexed me. so after a few hours and cutting up my tau pirahna and gun to the tau devilfish i came up with this. i have been watching a lot of robocop, and reading the blueprints, to figure out the specs on ed-209 and hope that i am starting to get this across. well here ya go.

Looks like a good start uber!
Good use of tau bitz.

I like the idea but I’m not sure about a shower, what proppa ork wants to take a shower?
perhaps an idea for a future build.

very nice mate. this thing is going to be uge\'.... mine right now weighs in at 4\" tall by 3 1/2\".... i should have some more pics up tomorrow. or maybe tonight. i really cant wait to see the outside of your deff dread.

Thanks Uber, I would love to see what you have done.
Today I have painted the pilot because it isn\'t possible to reach all the places with a brush once the pilot is \'in\' the dread.

i have a lot of grading to do today and tomorrow. i have midterms due this thursday, so i will be not working as much this week. but rest assured this little baby will be done by oct. 1st. the main gubbininzation took place on the legs this week. and as you can see little of the original feet are left. the body got filled in, but i am not happy with the front face plate so i plan on changing that over the week. i will add little details as well to the body this week. and no i havent forgot the rivets. :lol.... as for the weapons its a deff dread w/four cc weapons. the two arms, (which i need to finish) and the feet which (count as) cc weapons as well. (hey if zagstruck can get away wif\' it!)

Now, I can\'t help but think of THIS guy when I see Ubers project... Gotta love Mechwarrior! ^^ It just so happens that the Puma is my fav \'Mech so...

Awesome work, very nice Uber!
The only thing I can come up with to improve this beast is to add some spikey bitz to the feet.
And some glyps, rivets, etc. ya know.
keep it up, and I\'m looking forward to seeing the arms.
