Biggest impact on your hobby

I got into the hobby because the guys I used to play D&D with had a tradition where at the beginning of every new campaign they would buy and paint new minis for their characters. That was my first introduction to mini painting.
The second biggest impact was actually this site- when I really started to read the forum a few months ago I got inspired to push my skills to the limit and learn new techniques.

GW got me into the scifi-fantasy side of scale modelling, I did historical before that.
But I think the biggest impact was caused by a combination of the beautiful Rackham miniatures and being active on CMON.
This combination turned me into a competitive showcase painter instead of the gamer I was before.

My father introduced me to scale modelling when i was about 5 or 6, and having 2 model stores in my local area certainly helped keep me interested
Military exhibitions & museums were visited fairly regularly too
Movies & tv have played a big part too. Around the late \'80s there were a lot of Vietnam war movies & series (who remembers Tour of Duty?) and i started buying jeeps, choppers & figs from that era.
on the fantasy side definately Tolkien. Read the books when i was a kid & played a few games of MERP with schoolfriends, but i was never really interested in minis back then. The Peter Jackson movies sparked my interest again however
...and did i mention the internet?

Loved the Interceptor and used to draw them. Only later did I realize the girls with the purple hair had nearly see thru tops.
Started building historical models, but my mom stopped buying model because I realized that any model can fly as long as you throw it hard enough. Started building seriously when I was 13 when Battlestar Galactica can out and I build The Viper and the Cylon Raider. Around 1988 I was introduced to GW Game - Adeptus Titannicus and the rest is history.
Monogram back in the 70\'s & 80\'s used to place these little booklets in their kit that showed how to build a diorama with the model you purchased. They were built by Sheppard Paine and I used to drool over his crashed B-17 dio.

My older brother and cousin played fantasy an i wanted to do it to like an annoying younger brother would.
Then wanting to be able to paint better than him, and now wanting to paint just for things to look good.
Add to that Tolkien and computer games.

Biggest impact? Well I\'ve been around for soooo long
Have to say the internet; found Wyrd 0and other manufacturers0, got invited to join WAMP and then found CMON. Have to say the friendship and real advice over on WAMP makes me push myself further. Doesn\'t have some of the problems I find here at CMON, but I do like it here
