birch seed leaves

hello everybody.

I just wanted to notify everyone that the birch pods are the right size (here at least) to pick them and start making modelling leaves.

Ive already got a giant bag of them that some other person did all the work and I paid $4.00 for it.. its really a lifetime supply

Plus I dont have birch trees where I live.

hehehe, I picked like... 4 seeds, threw them into the oven, it said that they should be in for 15 min in 250 degrees.
I had them in the oven for ten minutes and they were as black as.... something very BLACK! :cussing:
anyway, I got some succesfull though

I\'m surrounded by birch trees here but it worked out so much easier to spend a couple of quid and have them delivered already cleaned and bagged and in a quantity fit t replant the entire british woodland regions......

cool tip though there are a lot of other things out there if your willing to have a look...#

dock leaves ..when they flower and dry they have brown flaky seed pods that make a more deciduous looking litter...
Dog daisies.. when the flowers die back you get left with some interesting flower shapes
there are thousands out there just a matter of thinking in the scale.....

yes it\'s easier to buy some... IF you find somewhere to buy it, and IF you don\'t have the patience to do some yourself.

it\'s actually really hard to find on the net...

Not in the desert. I have tumble weeds, catus needles and ....um...more tumble weed. Then there\'s sand. And dust on everything.

Hey! I know! How about a trade? I\'ll send you my bits if you send me yours! I\'ll get stuff for desert bases loaded up for you, you send me some of the stuff you were talking about and we\'ll swap. What do you think?

Problem with this is the Department of Agriculture frowns serious on sending soil and plant life through the mail, especially international. Its how crop killing diseases get spread. The state of california especially in the USA wouldnt like it. I know people in Australia cant get these seeds shipped to them and will have them seized.

So be careful because doing so could result in some serious fines.

They are a california based mail order store. I think they cost $4.99 for a really large baggie of them.

I guess you put them in at 250ºC, if you were reading an American website it would have been 250ºF which is about half that in Celcius.

What kind of things do you use specifically birch for?

Ive just realised birch is an anagram for BC Rich, and now I miss my bass. argh.

I have a 2 litre jar of Leylandii cuttings which (now that they are Dry & Brown) look quite good as scenic accessories for bases. Paint up relativley easily as well.(Mind you I did get some strange(r) looks from my neighbour as I was picking up the cuttings and putting them in the jar. Still the smell of Resin is nice when I open the jar. )
