bit of this and that

Finally got some mojo back for working on my magnum opus, the village diorama. The undead part of this snowy empire is still very much a work in progress. I will probs remove the ghosts and insert a gw black cart, either sculpt it myself or just use the "finecast" one. May add some summoned skeletons as well. the snow is a bit messy, especially on the graveyard parts. But that is how snow works? Trying to figure a way to add mist to that part, hehe.

Spent such an incredible amount of time and money on this project, zoo happy to finally see it coming to a close. (an angle grinder, 6 boxes of milliput, gw scenery, about 500 brushes ruined, music box, lights etc etc).

I really hope you guys like it. But now I need your help.
-What details should i add to the empire side?
-How can i make the graveyard look less messy?
Any ideas for mist? (don't tell me to install a smoke machine in the base;)))

Really like the Sigmarines you are doing :) and your diorama is great, wish I would start a project like that but i am sure it would take forever for me to finish. Some comments to the diorama then.

-What details should i add to the empire side?
- I think that side is good dont know if you should add to much, but here are some suggestions:
- a flag or sign on the wall, perhaps the building behind them are a pub?
- Perhaps some dried grass to make the ground more interesting?
- House hold pet or animal (cat/pig) traped between the forces on the openground.
-How can i make the graveyard look less messy?
- Less blod, some grass in that area?
- add a cross or/add tombstone to more clarify that area and the purpose of it.
Any ideas for mist? (don't tell me to install a smoke machine in the base:wink:))
- Don`t install it the base have a smoke machine on the side :) :)

Mist seem very hard to make, it should kind of be transparent and cover some areas. I would say smoke might be easier to "make"
- Perhaps use thin transparent "melted" plastic to get a good shape that can be put in different heights over the areas that needs it and paint it more or less transparent to get an effect of mist or smoke.
- Use of cotton or similar to cover areas and paint it up as smoke? but properly hard for it too look good thou...

that are some suggestions hope they might help you.

Thanks for the tips John. the idea with a small animal in the middle is great. perhaps i should sculpt like a raven flying away or something?

I have a flag in the works, "the cock in the sky" with a rooster standing in front of a meteor shower, classical pub style=) gonna finish it, even though the painting quality is a bit low since i started the project like 2 years ago^^ there is already loads of dried grass on the living side, just as there are tomb stones on the graveyard side. the grass is covered with snow, and the tomb stones are unpainted so far:p

the blood on the graveyard side is actually a type of bushes, while the green stuff is nurgly beads. both of them painted with phosphorent paint. i will add some detailed pictures in a bit, to give a clearer idea of what´s going on.

I always wanted to use dry ice, but it feels hard to implement.

Love the Sigmarine!
Your diorama looks excellent too, and your wips have been a solid inspiration.
I have some crushing crit for your diorama though - please don't hurt me....

I think the texture of the base is too similar throughout. I reckon a smooth, cleaner ground (either side) will make your models stand out a lot more, and give some relief to the eye.
Horribly, I think the river is slightly jarring - both visually and maybe thematically (aaaaarrgh!). If you're going for dark, misty coldness, I think a deep, dark, dank smoother river/stream would fit better (you could still use the ice in the water, maybe cracking where feet have been?). Unfortunately the combination of the river flowing left to right, and the river width going from right to left feels a little weird (if that makes sense?) the duck is brilliant btw, and I reckon Kretchers animal trappedbetweenthetwo suggestion is a cracker! I realise the amount of time and effort put into the river must've been huge, so it's a no brainer to keep it and just adjust for next time.

Man, I feel like the worst person ever after this post...

Yeah that is sad, UK of all places. But guess there is a reason behind but now he is going to paint only NMM and no more true metals :)
