Alright, here's my update, later than I wanted but not by much. All told, I may go ahead and build/paint his Assault Cannon prior to Gamesday, as I'm not satisfied with my OSL on the plasma coils, and frankly, if I don't build the thing while I'm motivated, I never will, and another magnet will go unused. :(

Looking at the pictures, I'm going to deepen the shade up by the white dot on the lens... Added to my little list of "cleanups" once the model proper is finished.

I stuck the Sun Wolf on the "shoulder", as that's my great company's emblem, and I wanted to tie him to my army that way, as if it wasn't going to be obvious enough on the battlefield. There's a little bit of knotwork on the top of the shoulder plate, which I forgot to get a shot of.

On to to the claw arm tonight. Thanks for looking!

This is looking excellent!

If you´re unhappy with the plasmacoils a way to do them might be "reverse shading? make it brighter in the recesses of the coil than on "the top" of the coils.

I did something like it on my GKs (only TT quality though, so not as impressive as yours :p).

Those are going to be some nice looking knights, slah.

I had tried reverse shading initially on the coils, and it looked...weird. Maybe I didn't do it right, but I think at this point, I'll leave it to experiment on something that's not for a comp.

Alright, another update sooner than I had anticipated, but probably the next-to-last update before finished photos go up. At this point, it's just the claw, banner, and a few little clean ups, and he's done... Well, other than the assault cannon, which I'm thinking I might build and paint in a few weeks.

This is not a complaint at all. I think this is one of the best Dred's made or painted I have seen.
Is it me or does the Red Lenses on the plasma cannon just look out of place? maybe it should be green or yellow?

Can't wait to see it complete.

You know, I didn't even think about it; I've always done targeting lenses red since the dawn of time, and I don't even know why. I was very adamant about not having red anywhere else other than on the banner and his left greave, but then I painted the lense like that.

The biggest crit I've been getting has to do with "glowy verdigris", which is something I'll have to try to correct. At least the plasma coils have really started to grow on me.

Alright, time for an update. I just need to do the source lighting on the claw nodes, add some snow, and clean up a couple of spots that I noticed in the giant photos, and it'll be done. Then it's just the banner to finish, and a couple of clean ups on the model. Large photos are great for picking up those tiny errors...



For some reason, I guess the lighting, it really takes away the subtlety of the blade knotwork. It looks better in person.

Here's an overall shot. I also toned back the "glowy" verdigris that was hurting the overall look.
