For the first time I\'ll post some of my wip Black Templars in this forum :D Hopefully some of you more experienced painters can give me some advice :)

This is supposed to be tabletop standard by the way :p

Not everything on them is finished and a lot of things have only been basecoated. Feel free to critiqe anything though :) The armour and the metal areas are pretty much done, even though I\'m not happy with the metal so I\'ll have to come up with another recipe :D

Try using some wash on the flesh, devlan mud or ogryn flesh then highlight up with flesh tones. There are more guys n girls on CMON way more talented than me though!

Look nice:D

Thanks :)

Yes there supposed to be tabletop standard. I must admit that I used to like gaming more than painting but no more  So now I spend to much time painting them and to little playing with them lol I think I have found the standard that I would like to paint all my Black Templars in. Maybe go the extra mile with some characters but at least paint them to this standard. Hopefully :D

I\'m not what you\'d call a good painter, but I\'ll offer my two cents. One thing I would do to make them stand out even more is to highlight the bone aspects of the models (robes, scrolls etc) up to 50-50 bone/white and then even up to pure white.

I think you\'ve done some really nice models and like the other guys said they\'re definitely table top quality. I guess it\'s the same old story of more shading and more highlighting to take it to the next level.

I hear you. The scrolls have only been basecoated this far, and thanks to your advice the robes will get a final highlight of 50:50 bleached bone and white.

Thanks for the advice :)

Metallics. Give them a couple of washes with blacks, browns maybe even throw in a blue or purple, then highlight with chainmail if that\'s boltgun metal or mithril if that\'s chainmail. :)

Thanks :) when shading metal with washes should I only put wash in the deepest areas? Or all over the metal? And tips on how it should be done?

Some solid looking models here!

I agree about the metallics.

What I like to do is apply a wash of Devlan Mud all over the metallic areas. This dulls them down a bit. Then take some Badab Black and apply this only in the recesses. Do this a couple times to make sure that you get the shadows very dark. Then go back and hit the edges with Boltgun Metal (or whatever your basecoat color was), followed by a touch of Mithril Silver here and there.

My only suggestion would be to either freehand some text onto the seals. Or, if you don\'t want to freehand, you could make your own water transfers like giganticdark did for this mini. Scroll about halfway down the page.

Thanks, both of you :)
I will test out the washes on metal on the next miniatures I paint :)

Once the scrolls are done the will get some freehand on them :) I am planning on doing some water transfers for the shoulder pads, the right shoulder is going to have the tactical squad sign and the squad number, the right knee will get company number and the left knee will have crusader bagde :) The only thing that i am missing for the decals is decal paper, I just have to buy some. I have read a lot about water transfer decals on this forum so I think I have an idea on how to make those look good :)

You stated that most areas are only basecoated (and there\'s only one large pic of a marine with a helmet), but the eye lenses need more definition.

I\'d also echo the sentiments of highlighting the robe/cloth areas further.

The eye lenses are only basecoated and they will recieve more definiton once I\'m done with all my examx :D

Usualy I would do scab red basecoat, blazing orange in the corner and white dot in the other corner, then it the thing with gloss varnish once all the other parts of the model get matt varnished :) Maybe I\'ll challenge myself and throw in some blood red between the scab red and blazing orange :)

The robe/cloth has been highlighted further with a 50:50 mix og bleached bone and skull white. I\'ll probably won\'t go any further with it. Pictures will be up soon :)

Update: Robes done!

So finally got the robes done, been very busy because of four exams but I\'m done with those now and back to painting :D

Here are the robes with added highlight 50:50 mix of bleached bone and skull white.

And after the new highlight:

The pictures get reduced quality after I add them to photobucket :( Anybody knows how to fix this?

Comments and critique welcomed :D
