Blending is simply mixing, but done in a way that the colours have a smooth transition - like the colours in a spectrum.

(Ie. red fades to orange, to yellow, to green... etc etc)

thanks everyone...I will read the article and try it out...although i have done it but doent seem to get the wright effect i want.

The article is for wet-blending or wet on wet. You can do it wet on dry as well using diluted paint and layering or feathering. Last white dwarf has a small article that describes it pretty good.
