Im adding some purple but the more i add the mix becmoes too purple and the mini just ends up looking a light purple instead of a dark shade of yellow

Tried Shading with blue? Usually works, obviously you shouldnt mix yellow and blue, just shade till it gets blueish in the shadows.

Green or orange or red... maybe?

Maybe just dont use soo much purple? maybe try a red purple?

shade with Yellow browns. (i.e. Gamesworkshop snakebite leather... bubonic brown)

things like that. Try those and see if they work (i tend to start with a brighter yellow and shade down using all the yellows i have.. if its not dark enough i use yellow browns.

Couple ways you could do this. I would not recommend adding in purple or blue, it will just start making things confusing unless you really know what you\'re doing.

For a more natural looking yellow, go with the yellow brown for shades like obsidianpainting suggested. I like Snakebite Leather, then use something like Scorched Brown for further shades.

For a more cartoon/fantasy looking yellow shade with orange. The GW Foundation orange is a great color for this. Not too vibrant, but not too brown.

I think it is good advice to shade down with browns. You can add some purple glazes to the deepest shadows once you are done.
