Blood Angels Insignia

Im starting a GD project and I am trying to map out all the freehand which will go on the model, although I have one problem.

I have no knowledge of Space marine chapters and specifically Blood Angels. Iv had a look and managed to find a tear shape, that shape with wings and a winged chalice.
I was also thinking of using some or a numeral, is there any numbers I should avoid?

Plus what type of freehand would Blood Angels have painted on?

Any and all references/help will be greatly appreciated.

Semi-vampiric guys in big ass armour. :D

Freehand blood drops, Black Teardrops as Gemstones, Chalices(i) Angel Wings (for Sanguinius), Red or black X \'s.
Numerals could be the classical Lined Gothic or Roman Numerals.

heres a termy squad I didages ago bit basic but may give you some ideas....
wings angels and death all good themes as are chalices etc...
if you can get hold of a copy of the blood angel codex this may help although they are undergoing their update and some of the schemes in there are quite old school bright colours...
read deus encarmine and deus sanguinius good books and give some great insight into the BA\'s ..
The forgeworld website has the cool resin pieces ..termy pads rhino doors etc that will give you some clues on imagery also the gw website and good old google...
I have a ton of books and stuff if you need any images scanning I can see what I can do..

Don\'t forget that the Blood Angels are being featured in issues 300 & 301 of WD so there may be some useful tips there too as well as recopmmended bits like the shoulder pads etc.

EDIT - obviously I mean issues 330 and 331 :duh:

The piece 2nd to the left, the skull with the square wings. Does anybody have a larger scan or picture of that?

@Billy, yea iv been looking lol but everything they have been using is just straight of the transfer sheet, and not very inspirational. There are some good little bits of \'filler\' artwork though which iv been having a good look at.

Can\'t you zoom in on it if you\'ve saved it on your comp might not be that crisp but you never now

Yea iv tried, but its a bit hazy. Would work, I can see the detail alright but if anybody has a bigger clear one I would be mega grateful.

Do a Wikidpedia for blood angels Matt - will give you the background and organizational info you need.

Basically, as I understand it, the majority of the troops are red with the black winged tear, but those who fall victim to \"the red thirst\"
(A genetical abnormality that causes frenzy)

Are sent to the death company (Where they are expected to simply beserk charge and die), who wear black armour with simple red cross designs on each pad.

I think thats the only difference between BA\'s and most other chapters.

I DO like the fact that they actually have an Apothecary special character - I\'d like to see more of those guys.

They\'ve got special assualt marines as well called the honour guard which have gold helmets, also think they can have a HQ with jet packs again that might not be true :D

Yeah, the honour guard can have jump packs as I remember, and of course, Dante with his Terry\'s all gold armour :p

I really like the pre heresey ones for the space marines, cause colour schemes aint hard to come up with but banners etc can be a pain!!

That square icon is also the same one as the metal side plate on the land raider crusader.

I hate the horrible things, so I ground it off.

I *might* have a spare one....

Effin brilliant cheers! And thanks to everyone else for the tips, I just wanted some ideas for more elaborate freehand, not just tear shapes and geometric wings.
