Main reason for changing is that I wasn't happy with the paint job on the original and I decided I was better off with a Relic Blade (well axe in this case), when I originaly did him I couldn't get all the bits I wanted online but i was on a bitzstore getting some stuff for a commission job and saw the bitz i wanted originally.

One thing I just haven't seemed to be able to get right is the relic blade, its a really annoying actually because I have done the effect a few times on swords and i was happy with the, not sure if its because its a axe rather than sword or it the color just doesn't work as well

Here is the effect I was more going for

Cheers.

I always found blue tough to highlight.

The effect does look better on the purple blade, but maybe it's because the placement of the highlights. They seem more random on the axe.

Yeah I think you could be right about that, i think because of the size of the actual blade i wasn't really sire on the best placement on them while with the sword it seemed far more obvious

One nice trick I've used is to go ahead and highlight it as best you can and push the highlights higher than normal, then put a wash of saturated color over that. It can help to give you the highlights and retain color saturation. Pushing the highlights higher than normal is because the wash will knock it back down to normal.

Thats actually what I did however when I used a wash over them it lost some of the highlight, i went from enchanted blue to skull white in about 8 stages, my first stage was very wide (about the width of the brush), i might try it with a different blue, 4th time lucky!
