My plan is to use 26 gauge copper wire along with green stuff and very thick printer paper from work to make a variety of pretty flowers for the base.
Maybe sun flowers since they're easier to scale with the base and mini.
!!
Dress makers pins and or stripped Cat5 cable, plus if you have one the waste from an office hole punch.
Making flowers is fiddlly, and time consuming, but the thinner the paper the closer to "scale" it'll look. Tracing paper looks quite "in scale" but I've found it needs a "kiss" of Dullcoate to make the paint stick.

Ben thanks for the meaningful words you posted on my w I p . You were so right having me start my own... But one thing I'm still searching for..... What are you going to do for that dark elves base.. I'm dying with anticipation !!

Thanks BaM. Well, it's going to be a forest base if sorts. But I also have some pieces of ancient Elven statue that looks like it has long ago crumbled and fallen amongst the brush. I've got some grass tufts, meadow flowers, poison ivy. Also some strange things here and there. Yesterday I went to basically a giant estate sale for an entire elderly community. Walked away with a bunch of dried flowers and and other cool items for basing. I don't have the whole vision in my head yet, but I have a base line to work off of. Hopefully I do the sculpt justice.

Uh oh. I think andyG has given you all his secrets because that is some damn fine painting sir. I wanna sculpt something ASAP now for you to paint ;)

Ten Ball, your version of this guy provides a ton of inspiration and, when I have a question I need only take a look and see how you executed it. Really really fun mini to paint. I know it's been up for awhile but I've really only put a total of 4-5 hours in and it's really been a lot of fun.

I am ready when you are. Just give it a ton of gold and steel type surfaces! And yes NMMAndy is a great teacher but 10Ball deserves all the credit here.

The credit is now yours bud. This is super super awesome painting and some of the best I've seen on this site and quite possibly the world. Excellently executed again!!!

Lol...get outta here! This is the first time I have ever done steel NMM. It can't be that good....appreciate the flattering compliments though! I'll never complain about those, even if they are exaggerated a bit! Much love to you my ground fighting brother.

I take leave today for two weeks. Driving across the length of America to return home to see family for the first time in years-since I went to Afghanistan last. Great to see family but I'll miss the hell out of my paint brush...

Have a great time! Best thing about this hobby, it can be put on hold and you can live vicariously through others on the forum in the wee hours or during down time. What's the infantry version of "fair winds and following seas"? No clue. Travel safe :)

What part of the country you heading to? Safe travels bud and enjoy the hell out of those two weeks. You definitely deserve it Rambo.

Thanks homies! I am headed to my hometown in Columbus Ohio!!! Driving there and flying back. And of course I will do some forum creeping. But I do a lot of that anyway. Still uncertain about how exactly I'm going to compose my base with limited space. Hopefully it just happens like last time. I've been going through the gallery and saving all pics of bases with forest themes or crumbling statues just to get some ideas. But I still feel very compelled to paint. But the good/bad news is the wife is staying there for an extra month. So the bittersweet of it is that I'll have a month of uninterrupted painting in about two weeks.
