BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

I'm wondering, cause I didn't see it in the materials, did you pick up the pigment powders fastener that helps the powder stick to the model parts. I use mig it's usually a 2 part process so I use dark rust and then mix it with the fastener or applicator liquid then I just paint it in the crevices as the fastener dries the rust shows up . Do you have this ?

I didn't get the fastener. Thanks for mentioning it though. I was just going to experiment with it but glad you mentioned this!

Tough times for me, gents. As you all know, I recently drove across the USA in order to visit with my family and take part in my mother's wedding. We drove because we needed to take our dog, Suki, who was diagnosed with cancer 6 months ago. The doc told us it was EVERYWHERE and gave here days to live. She recovered well, and had a very happy 5 months. However, the tumor on her neck made it increasingly hard to breathe, and she grew very weak. We put Suki down on the first of August. She was 9 years old.

Suki was an American Bulldog. A sweeter dog has never lived. She wanted nothing but to please her Daddy, and as the cancer took over she would still wag her tail uncontrollably when I entered the room. When I took her to the vet to put her down, she collapsed with exhaustion and laid her broad head on my lap. Her tumor was so large on her neck that the only way she could rest was of she placed her chin on something to support her. So as she finally was able to relax by resting her head on my lap, the vet administered the euthanization. She was drifting off to sleep as it began, and she suddenly opened her eyes to look at me one last time, then closed them forever. It was so peaceful. So natural.

My my heart is heavy. I lost 16 of my brothers in arms during my first tour in Iraq in 2007. But this is pain I have never known. Rest in Peace Suki Lou Baird. My baby...

Sympathies.

Wasn't there a bulldog in a Zombicide pack? Also there was a wip on the reaper forum of a sculpter who recreated two doberman in mini for a commission...they turned out awesome and the personality of the mini matched the photos of the real dogs.

My sympathies go out to you and your wife my friend. I know exactly what you mean about the pain being something all together different. Best I figure is you give such a huge part of your heart and soul to your Suki, where as your brothers in arms only occupied a small portion. That is why it hurts so much more, and there is no shame in that. We are all here for you brother.

BFK, so sorry man.
It's the hardest kindness we ever have to do, six years since we had to have our little girl put to sleep and it still hurts.
The only suggestion I can give you is to rescue another dog and give it a loving home, its not perfect and it's not a cure:
Think of it like this.....

A Dog’s Last Will & Testament
Before humans die, they write their last will and testament, giving their home and all they have to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask…
To a poor and lonely stray I’d give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name.
I’d will to the sad, scared shelter dog the place I had in m human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds.
So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand.”
Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, andgive my place to him.
This is the only thing I can give…
The love I left behind.

DR, I'm so sorry to hear that you share this painful experience. My wife, who I have to leave behind today, is going to get a baby American Bulldog tomorrow. So I sent her these beautiful words and brought a tear to her eye, because she was having trouble feeling ok about "replacing" Suki. So this helped. Thank you.

Reading all your experience was enough to put me and Janet my fiancé crying in each others arm BFOK . I'm sorry I did not see this sooner. It's always pain a pain that lies in the bottom of the pit of a persons being. And it prob never goes away I talked with Drahonsreach about my mom and best frien who I lost to a battle with ling cancer. She always asked me right up until the end isn't mommy looking better.all I would say was yes. But she wasn't saying it for her she was saying it for me and my brother whom also lost our dashund of 13 years im the before. All I can say is I am sad for you and sorry I did not reply sooner. But suki would want the home and love she had to pass to another best friend . And that along with GOD and all things righteous and paradisal , I do believe.

Thank you for the kind kind words, per usual Blood. It means a lot to get support from yourself and many other buddies I have had the pleasure of meeting. I guess we wouldn't grieve for those we have lost if they didn't provide us with so any good moments. So, like everything in this life of ours, we must give for what we take. In one way or another. Thanks friend, and I am sorry that you have had to ensure your own losses.

Ahem, now...I don't want to stand killing this thread with all this depression! So what are we here for? To paint! Here is my completed sword. Glazed on some blue at the end. Not exactly the effect I was looking for, but I am semi-pleased with it. I took pics of miltiple angles just so it was clear how it is looking. Just a bit to clean up yet on it.

Now, question is, what color do I do all of the scales on his back and underarms, belt, etc. it's not really visible in these pics, but the scale parts will be visible from all angles. I was going to do a shaded emerald look, but then I realized that if I make the steel of his sword blue then this won't work. So I can go gold, I suppose. Not sold on it though and need advice.

Nope I would stick with steel colour again if you get all fancy and have relatively large areas being contrasting metallic colours then you risk drawing the eye to an area of relative unimportance. If it was a helmet then fine gold as you are trying to draw the eye there anyway but the upper arms? Nah. If you want to differentiate from the other metals give it some glazes or something is my advice.

sorry about your dog mate.

I agree with Andy the use of analogous colors implemented by using the same color with variation from diff colored glazes is me aking a second notion to what Andy has said. The model is coming out beautiful!

Thank you, Andy. Truly.

Not sure if painting the scales the same steel color is a wise move. From the look of it, they are very much intended to be a different color. I'm not home so I am attaching a pic of another artist's dark elf. It shows him from the back. You'll see that the area in question is not so much scale as it is a padded leather or something. So, that being said, rather than being my normal long winded self, here are my options:

A) leave as is and paint the "under armor" a steel color, as suggested by my Sensai.
1. Glaze each scale blue like sword

B) Take away the blue glaze in the sword and paint the "under armor" a shaded emerald green, per my original plans.

C) Leave sword as is, paint "under armor" gold.

D) "Under armor" is treated as padded leather and painted leather brown throughout.

E) Your idea here

I tend to really still struggle with making color choices. I am afraid very often to go with my intuition.

Spanner in the worx... Black leather with a blue hue tying into the blade? If you are set with green you could use a blue/ green/ grey. I'd tend more to think of the tonal contrast, you could think of the under garment the same hue as the dark shading of the blade contrasting against the lighter steel armour... jeepers, i'm confusing myself, good luck mate
