BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

Thanks all for the words of motivation. I should finish this mini this week, unless I run into some major delays on the base (I don't expect this, though I have no idea what I am going to do).

No need for noodles or any other such college food groups. Money isn't so much a concern. It's pure laziness (de)motivating me.

If you got the house by yourself, paint until your hands hurt! If your hands hurt, well, then you can call in sick from work and paint some more.

Great work, btw.

Was worried about you dude. Haven't heard from you in days :)

Its Maagaan from Mierce Miniatures.

Also I recently bought Goliath from Simon Minis. I found a version on google images I really really liked how it was executed. Then I found it again days later, and traced the image back to CMON. IT WAS YOURS!!!! Great job on it btw!!

Maagan is looking good mate. Good looks good but as others have said could do with some edge highlights. A small thing but the NMM on the thigh and knee look awesome

Thank you Darth. Good of you to take the time to comment. Yes, I indeed still need to do some edge highlights, essentially everywhere. I have started some but the kept disappearing from refining the blends. Plus as Stew mentioned, I am going to really take my time on the edge highlights and make sure that they are gradual blends themselves. Lastly, I am putting cuts and rents in the armor so I'd like to finish most of these first. I am glad that you like it tho.

I am starting on the cloak today. It's going to be the standard tiger orange brown color. With dark brown black stripes. My fear is that the color will clash too much with everything else. But we shall see, shant we?

You know, I think that yellow grass kept you from a strong 9.5. You really should redo the base and resubmit it. I think you'd be surprised how high it scores. Just cuz the paint job is so damn good on it. Inspiring. Love how you did his armor.

Just go mine in the mail today. I have to say, hands down this is the best mini I have ever purchased. From quality of the cast to beauty of the sculpt. It is just perfect. Really going to enjoy painting it. Think I'll make it very coppery. Oh , and as others have experienced, Simon did green stuff problem areas. What a guy ...

For the cloak I think the first pattern you choose looked great but would be a little busy for a mini of this size and as you say orange tiger stripes may clash. How about something like this? Its a a large pattern so won't be to fussy and the tan will go nicely with the Gold

Yeah it was about a year ago I was happy with the overall score the registered voter score was a 7.something that's at the time I thought what it deserved but since you've pointed it out I may do just that take some time on the new base ND resubmit it. Thanks for the pep talk . Yeah Stephen simon runs his Co very well he does it all himself and what a guy he is man . He takes so much care in each model and for him to gap the gaps he's gotta be ace in my book. And I know I mentioned it but take a look at his new 4 horseman line . They are excellent as well. Never ever seen a sculptor get so much minute detail on such tiny scuplts. He's Def razor sharp.

Only 1 of the 4 Horsemen line is available, right?

You don't happen to have the dwarf Cannibal from him, do you?

Also if you look at his blog, look into some of the minis he made for Rackham...holy Lord...

I probably stared at this Stephan Simon sculpt for like 4 hours yesterday. It is just so distinct in its quality and beauty. Not a single mould line. I can't even begin to describe how well it is done. I can tell just by looking at it that it is one of those sculpts that make painting seem easy. GIVE THIS MAN YOUR MONEY!!!!

Email him for costs and availability. You can see his entire line on his blog.

I laid down some of the initial oranges of his cloak. It's sort if a burnt umber type of orange. Actually, it's VMC orange brown (or VMC 10Ball orange) mixed with GW Vermin Brown. Pure vermin in the cracks and upper part of cloak. Lighter oranges are a pale orange from GW, can't remember name. Then I glazed khaki near the edges working up to Ivory. I actually like it. On it's own it doesn't look good, and sort of out of place, but with the stripes I expect a nice looking tiger pelt.

I need to to darken where the tiger's eyes were. The face will look much more complete that way. What are your comments?

Looks like the start of a nice tiger pelt. The orange looks a bit bright, but the stripes will probably fix that. If it's still too much you can always add a brown wash/glaze on top to tone it down more. Lucky you, with that tiger head you get to paint two faces on the same model!

Thanks Bailey. Yes, brightness was a concern because I didn't want orange to clash. But then I thought about it, and when I've seen warriors in armor, their cheetah/tiger/ lion pelt normally does stand out a bit, and it is this contrast that actually makes it look cool. I've always believed that a pallet shouldn't exceed 3 main colors, unless you've truly mastered that color wheel. So I am really going out on a limb here by using dark gray steel, red-brown rust, and orange-brown pelt. It's not really a great triad. I'll have the scepter glowing blue, and the coin purse will be blue, and the sword scabbard will be a black blue. Considering highlighting the tiger stripes with a blue-black, but idk how that would look. I guess we shall see how it all comes out.
