Hey anyone
trying make a base for my min that will create the illusion of air movement. I have some long grass I am going to add to the base. But how can I make it look like it is bending in the wind?
I am tempted to try hairspray!. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hmm, I would make a try with the Acrylic Resin from MIG productions (http://migproductionswebshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=71). Maybe you can thin it down with their Thinner for Washes. Then I would take a bit on an old tooth brush and stroke the Resin into the grass. Maybe you will have to let it dry and then do that again.....Last apply a coat of matt varnish to get rid of the Acrylic Resin glossy shine.

Still that's just an idea. I have never done it. Maybe others have better ideas :)

Edit: Maybe just dry it with thinned down wood glue? Would have same effect and you will get that faster than the resin.

just did a couple tests (no pictures, they were just quick tests.) For long grass (I'm assuming you have the like inch or two long plastic kind?) there are 2 options. First, and quickest: run it with a small amount of pressure across the edge of a pair of scissors (like curling a ribbon). You can do this with any hard edge (I did it on the back of an X-Acto knife), but it's hard to get control over the curve of the grass, and too much pressure and it'll get actually curly.
Second option, and it works pretty well, is grip some in some locking tweezers (or use your hands if the heat doesn't bother you) use a hair dryer, heat on, on low. The low blows the grass somewhat sideways, and since the material is plastic, the heat helps mitigate the elasticity. After every couple seconds, switch the hair dryer off and see how it looks. You have a lot of control over how bent the grasses look this way.
Let me know how it turns out (as I said, I literally just did a test 10 minutes ago)

I tried bending the grass with tweezers but it wouldn't stay. I didn't try using heat while bending it. That makes sense. I ultimately tried bending it with tweezers and applying some crazy glue to the bend. ( I tried resin but it take longer to dry than I have patience. The crazy glue works but the grass gets a bit clumpy since things stick together. I may try using the heat method and if that works replacing it.

Picture attached. I close to calling this done if only because I m getting tired of it. Maybe I will make the waves bigger Comments on how to improve welcome.
