Hi
I used to paint mini's about 20 year ago but as a teenager there are so many other distractions this hobby got long forgotten. That was until about a year ago when I walked past the local GW store with my 8 year old. He dragged me in to look at all the little monsters and that was just the kick I needed to pick up a brush again. So I picked up a selection of paints and a few minis off ebay and set to work.
The first few mini's were a mess but thanks to tips picked up on this site and a few others like it I am now starting to feel quite pleased with my painting. I even posted my first picture a while back, and it has scored higher than I had expected.

So I have decided to start this WIP thread to show off what I'm working on now and hopefully receive some feed back to help me improve. The mini is a Malifaux Ronin but rather than copy the box art I have decided to go for a more Alice/Dorothy inspired colour scheme.

I'm pleased with the progress so far. I'm hoping to paint the tights white but could use some pointers on the best way to go about it. Any feedback or comments would be most appreciated.

Great mini and a great colour scheme. For her legs you could go with a sheer effect - have a word with Milosh, he knows whats what with that sort of thing :)

Well after starting this thread over a year ago life got in the way and I didn't get a chance to pick up my paint brushes again until the end of the year when I took part in the Gokan paint along on this forum. Now that that is finished I thought I'd give this thread another shot.

My ronin now sits at the back of the cupboard collecting dust but rather than carry on with her I thought I'd try something new.
This fella arrived in the post last week.

The plan is to go for the classic Adam West style batman costume. I've tried adding more contrast than I have in the past and so far am pleased with the results. Unfortunately after taking this photo I dropped him and one of the ears from his mask snapped of and vanished so now I get to practise my sculpting skills as well.

Also here is a link to my Gokan. http://www.coolminiornot.com/380691

I've sculpted a new ear onto the mask, it's far from perfect but it will do. I've also painted the rest his suit. I was thinking about maybe glazing some purple into the darker recesses but am not sure. Also base coated the mask and gloves.

Love these minis and looking forward to watching this come along! Looks to be a great start! Planning on any sort of scene for the base?

I've not decided on the base yet. When I selected my minis from indigogo I didn't get the robin and I'm kicking myself now. I may wait until he's available retail and try and base the two of them together.

A bit more done. If I follow the TV show batman costume the cape should be the same colour as his mask and gloves but I think this will look a bit much so I think I'm going to paint it grey.

I love your choice in minis. They look like fun to paint.

What if you did a different color for the lining of the cape? That would break it up and maybe make the rest of him stand out against it.

Thanks MrJim. I have been considering your idea but I really want to keep him as close as possible to the 60's TV batman.
I've not had much time to get any further this week but my Gobin did come in the post so I will be basing the two of them together when I get that far.

A bit more done. Quite pleased with the way the cape turned out. I'm hoping once I've painted the pouches and his badge yellow it will brighten it all up a bit.

The green skin didn't photograph very well. in real life the highlights are a lot brighter.

Thanks for your comments. It's been a struggle to find time to paint at the moment but I finally got a bit more done today. I realized that since I returned to the hobby I haven't actually painted anything yellow. So with a very limited selection of paints I've given it my best shot.

All in all I don't think it's to bad.

At last the kids are back to school. Finally found some time to paint. Getting pretty close to finishing Batgob, I need to have another go at his eyes, I'm not happy with his gun and then just a general tidy up. I've still not decided on a base but I think I'll paint robin first then come up with something.

That dude's awesome. From what I understand, yellow can be a tricky color to paint. It tends to come out transparent/translucent. But your coverage seems to be doing good.

I've made a start on Gobin. Should be plenty of practice painting yellow on his cape. it's only base coated at the moment with a scale 75 yellow(forget the name but it's in their red paint set) I plan to mix in some GW golden yellow to shade and then maybe add some orange. for the highlight I am going to add ivory to the base colour. Any tips anyone could offer on this would great as I'm kind of new to yellow.
