Boats

Hi,

or one of my projects i have had an idea to do a boat based one. I have worked out most things apart from how to actually build the boat.

It would need to be to scale for a standard GW mini. And be of the size of a modern day patrol boat or thereabouts.
something a bit like this sort of size.

Anybody got any ideas on how to go around constructing a boat!

Where did you get the picture James?
Last time I saw this it was on the back of a lorry under a tarpolin with an armed guard and when they trialed it it had a police escort that it left standing...

Airfix used to do a model of an MTB from WWII not sure if they still do or not but it would be very easy to modify.

Otherwise you could try model boat magazines as they often have a list of model shops catering for this and they sell the plans as well as the materials needed.

It is a long painful process though so be warned they are not easy to build from scratch and require a lot of time and patience

I would try and find a plastic scale model kit of a boat that roughly fits the bill, both concerning scale and general look, and go from there. Once you\'ve got the general shape of the boat you can make your own modifications using plasticard or whatever stuff do the job.

I used to do a lot of boat building back in the day, thats where I started into modelling, and then into warhammer.

I could probably knock you something together out of balsa/placcycard etc if you wanted.

Depends on what you are looking for - Tamiya used to make a VietNam era PBR -

I\'ve seen a 1/72 or so scale PT 109 kit floating around that could be used for the hull and such in 40k. Matter of fact saw one of them just the oither day at my local hobby shop.

Dragon used to make several Viet Nam era Seal team boats.

However i may want this to be a GW entry so ill proberly want to scratch build it.

My ideas so far consist of a polystyrne hull with carpet tape round (to protect it)and then use either plasticard or card to add the sides in.

Anyother ideas folks??

You could get some styrofoam or florists foam (I paid £1 for 2 housebrick\'s size) and carve a simply shape into it, then use thin plasticard to build over the top.

that looks like a seal-team patrol boat... not something you want to see headed toward your stretch of beach. (Unless it is coming to pick you up.)

Its when you dont seem them its a problem.
