Books on Sculpting?

Hi everyone

I\'d really like to improve my sculpting skills beyond the bits of converting etc I can currently do.

Can anyone recommend any good books on scale model sculpting? Anthing that has tutorials i.e. anatomy stuff, \'how to sculpt heads\' type articles etc would be great

Cheers

Sculpting thread

check the above and look for minimakers exhaustive post on sculpting books. There\'s a lot there. I can recommend one or two from the list if needed

Nice one Rob, that is a beast of a list  . Which ones would you recommend for someone who is close to beginner, but knows the basics?

The question to ask you is probably what scale are you planning to sculpt in?

the two I use most are funnily the first on the list;

-\"Bill Horan\'s Military Modelling Masterclass\",
Bill Horan, Windrow & Greene Ltd., hardcover. This books is on sculpting military figures larger than 54mm. ISBN 1872004091 (1994).
\"Conversion and Scratch Building of Model Figures\",
Andrea Press, Paperback 40 pages, ISBN: 8493440442 (October 10, 2005)

Bill\'s book is just an inspiration start to finish, and although he does 54mm, the technique in principal is transferable to 28mm with the use of plastic torso from GW

The Andrea is quite thin, and a little flowery in translation from Spanish to English, but is a little gem. The scratchbuilding section I believe was written by Freeman from her, but may be wrong.

Using the technique from the Andrea book, I\'m well into a 65mm figure, who started off like this:
armature1.jpg

the armature is copper wire from Hobbycraft twisted together in a minidrill. All sealed with putty (Magic Sculp I\'m using)

The other thing worth getting at this stage is an anatomy book. I bought a chunky one at a discount book shop. Ming Hua\'s lists have a load there.
For wrinkles of clothing, take a photo of yourself!

I think it will be mostly in 28mm scale, since that is mostly what I paint. On the other hand, I\'ve really enjoyed painting larger scale pieces, so getting experience in that too would be good.

Managed to find both books on Amazon at decent prices

the problem is there\'s little in the way of books on sculpting in small scales. It\'s probably all on the web. Due to the reduction in scale it\'s often a case of simplifying............

I guess there\'s a gap in the market really.

Could be a good oppurtunity for some people to get together and make some money. The CMoN sculpting bible anyone? I\'m sure there are enough great sculptors on here to make a go of it
