Can anybody recommend a good book with tips and techniques for painting minis?

I know there are a lot resources on the internet but I want something I can have open in front of me whilst painting rather than having to keep running back and forth to my compuer.

If there aren\'t any, how much would you guys be willing to pay for a book covering everything from getting started to advanced techniques?

Thanks all,

theGreyPilgrim.

games workshop has a few.

GW made quite a few of these types of guides. They do cover just about everything you have asked for. I don\'t think they are still in print, but maybe you can find them via a 2nd hand book store or e-bay.

I suggest finding some of the great guides on the internet, and then just printing them out. Bind them into a folder, and viola no more running back and forth.

I also have some articles printed out for consulting during my work.
In my future hobby room (in my house I don\'t even own yet :)) I will use a better solution: an old pc or laptop on my work area for consulting pictures and articles :D.

So I don\'t think I will ever buy a book on the subject, because there are so much resources on the internet.

Magazines are more interesting: zines such as White Dwarf offer interesting articles on painting specific minis... this is something that can never be contained in a book.

I like the painting guides from Andrea Miniatures, especially now that they\'ve been translated into English...

They\'re mostly concerned with historicals, and larger scale stuff, but they detail the painting process very well...

Kalmbach makes a couple of books on doing Historical figures that are worth looking at. How to paint realistic military figures and How to build dioramas. Nobody has really done a good book on Fantasy/Sci-fi yet though...

Hi Vidja! Sounds good. Could you provide a link?

Squadron carries most of the books in the states.

Andrea also makes video\'s and cdroms about miniature construction and painting

GW just made \"how to paint guide\" and actually it\'s not bad. Covers all the basique techniches plus some advanced ones. and has twelve step by step minis.

Another good book to have is \"Heroes for Wargames\", by Stuart Parkinson, the editor was Paper Tiger, and published it around 1986. Good tips on basic techniques, an overview on several aspects of the hobby, and killer illustrations by John Blanche, as well as some painted and unpainted examples of the early work of the Perry twins, Colin Dixon, Aly Morrison, Gary Morley and others.

This is definitely out of print, but you might catch it second hand on Amazon or e-Bay.

GW painting book

Also seen a german version of that new \"how to paint\" book by GW. And now there also appears to be a french version.
Does anyone know if there is going to be an english one as well? (my french and german are somewhat lacking)
