Boss of da Madkowz

Remember when orks were... well, crazy and fun? Taking whatever they could, throwing it together (likely with \"lotsa nails\") and using it right away on the field (\"testin\'s for pansies\")? I remember! My ideas tend to be left-of-center to begin with, but keeping in mind the legacy of fun orks, I crafted this fellow, Da Boss of da Madkowz.

ork_madkowz_boss_02_lg.jpg

In game terms, the ork is armed with a \'uge choppa and a custom blasta while the cow is a \"counts as\" cyboar (or just ignored entirely if you can\'t get over the physics of rollerskates + rockets + mud). Likely the cow wouldn\'t survive once the rockets are lit -- for that matter, likely the ork isn\'t going to survive once the rockets are lit.

The cow is from the Warhammer Fantasy Giant with legs, head and tail repositioned. Imperial Guard boots make dandy skates. I learned a lot about green stuff from this project, but unfortunately I am still a pretty sucky sculptor. Some WIP shots:

This was my entry for 40K Single Figure at Atlanta Gamesday 2007, but alas it didn\'t place.

If you feel the urge to vote, please do. :)

Thanks,

Awesome dude! Orky madness and no mistake. You\'re my hero for the week for even considering putting so much effort into something so clearly mental. It\'s so well executed that it almost stops being crazy (but not quite thankfully!).

I\'m not even going to critique. This is one of those rare times where I\'ll just hop over to a gallery and hit 10... argh, can\'t help myself... the mud on the skates makes them stand out a little less than they should.

Still a 10 though!

one of the funnier things i have seen in a long time. imagine if the igniter had been put in the cows butt! now that would have been pure comic genius, complete with wide eyed cow look.

that reminds me of a story about a cow i once exploded . lets put it this way though, you cant light cow farts all that well but you can light its belches. alas cow gore on your shoulder at 40 paces isnt all that \"cool\"

Been and voted :D

Did you make finalist with this???

Or by saying that by not placing they didn\'t even give you a cerificate and badge???

Excellent work and a fantastic idea just how Orks should be.
I missed the skates on the cow first time around until I saw them on the greens/wips :)

WOW! That is what I thought when I saw this! I really like this model because it cracks me up lol Jokes aside, I sometimes think that the best models are those with a bit of humour in them.

One thing though that really bugs me is its right arm holding the choppa thing - it seems a bit ungainly somehow...

Anyway, nice model, sorry you didn\'t place with it. Voted :)

Cheers,
Tom

This is by far my favorite ork on here. I mean this has everything you could want in an ork. An amazing paintjob, tons of character, and absolutely crazy. Fantastic job.

The roller skates crack me up lol

Yeah Darth, in the UK they give you proof that you made it in to the finalist but noooo, not on this side of the pond least not in GA

Ah, I figured it must be something like that. We colonials got gypped there I reckon. :)

I recall the figure making first cut but I remember Kep saying for one they didn\'t think it was all GW parts (they thought the cow was non-GW? I think is what he said) and the general opinion was they thought it wasn\'t \'true to the IP\' or some such bilgewater. It\'s truly a great model IMO, even if it does poke a little fun at GW...which I guess is a no-no nowadays. There is only war, yadda yadda, and humor is the first casualty.

Oh lord. GW US seems to be more humourless then the rest.

Awesome piece! I wouldn\'t change a thing! It\'s characterful, crazy, funny.. and the cows got rollerskates! That last bit lended you the 10.. lol

After being at my first GD (only for a short time). This and one other model stuck out as memorable for me. Lots of good work there, some of it outstanding, but this and an extreemely well painted elf titan (?) thing stood out.

Ah, that\'s great, that is. Just the thing for when I\'m feeling under the weather, cheered me up no end. :D

Although, you\'ve now made me add to the list of \"things to do\"...paint some orks.

Thanks for responses. Made my day seeing all the compliments. :)

It made first cut, but the US GDs don\'t get badges or certificates or a slap on the bottom or anything for that.

I allowed myself a couple of paragraphs on my website to report what I was told, but that\'s really all I\'m going to say about it. Wish I\'d remembered about these guys when I was told there were no cows in the 40K universe. ;)

I have to admit that I found myself giggling a lot while I was sculpting the pilot\'s cap for the cow. My next ork project will likely involve fungus beer, fast moving machinery, and large bundles of dynamite. Only wish there were some truly terrified grots made by GW cause I could really use some. Hehe. Guess I have plenty of green stuffing to do before next year.

It sounds like that judge you were talking to was trying to pass the buck, probably rocked by the fact you knew more about the GW line of products than he did. lol

Your new ideas sound great. I can\'t wait to see them.

Great idea, and overall really nice painting.
Some proportion seem to be off though, the arm holding the weapon looks a bit weird, and the cow looks too small in my opinion.
And the fact that the cow is white attracts the eye to the cow instead of the orc, makes reading the pic a bit hard. But that\'s probably just a pic probleme :p
