Sorry can't help with the base, i haven't tried resins much. As to the alkyd mediums, Liquin fine detail is a great medium, from windsor and newton so no problems with your paint, it dries to a gloss finish, so needs a dulcote when dry, it has no negative reaction with testors. In addition it remains soluable in turpentine if you need to remove (before dulcoting) 
Lukas also do a medium, Lukas5, it is for impasto but i thin it with real turpentine (substitute does not work). I wouldn't recommend Luka colour, although it is one of the better studio ranges of paint.
As i experiment i'll keep u posted.
Your mini really shows the benefits of oil on the jacket, a great sense of 'realism' and wonderful colour. Hope u stay with the oils, it's an inspiration to me to keep trying it too.

Here we go with some of my latest work.
I have finally managed to finish the base of my librarian, and the librarian itself, for the moment I only have the picture of the base:

Then I have done the base of my "oil painted" reaper bones Captain. I have successfully managed (first try) putting transparent resin on a base. The base design was not so well thought for that, with decor elements wider than the wood base, which led to some difficulties to make the "casing" for casting the resin. So the casing was slightly bigger than the base. I have used plasti card folded, to fill the gap I have used blue tack... That was a bold move as I didn't know how the resin will react with the blue tack. luckily for me, it went fine the blue tack doesn't stick to the resin... Or the resin doesn't stick to the blue tack. which open new perspective to potential "forming" some transparent resin casting.

Finally my last project, a bust from forged monkey, really good quality. I will try to enter it in a Chinese online painting competition, the hobby is starting here...
I have mixed feelings about the first results, the shoulder pad I have tried to mix some different colors and midtones for the shadows, is it too much? too many colors? wrong colors? Any pointers would be really great...
Then for the face, the skin still needs some layers, I have made some mid tones purple in shadow and some light green in highlight where bones are underlying.
But I have finished the eye, is it ok?
Any additional suggestions are welcome, I never painted a bust and never at this scale... So any help would be great? mostly on the color scheme... suggestions from my fellow painters?

Whoa! that's a lot going on.
I love love love the librarian base. The red and blue look fantastic.
Great work on the water effect!
The bust is a tricky one. Why is her helmet blown apart? Is she just using some looted armor? Did it get blown apart while she was wearing it? She looks pretty healthy for a looter or a bomb victim.. To me it has a very sort of Giger thing going so I would be really tempted to do very dark colors like green and black. Maybe tone down her breasts and pony tail so you only see them after the helmet and the face? The shoulder pad looks great. Maybe start on the helmet and then come back to the face?

Yes Demihuman I was directly attracted by this bust... but it is true that I struggle to find a story. For me the helmet got damaged, long time ago or looted from other guards from a soon to be fallen empire. The lady under is in good condition (in a way, I want her to be in good condition). There are no damage on the rest part of the cloth and she has tidy hair...
I will continue on the helmet with the same colors as the shoulder pad... Let's see where it is going!

You just inspired me to pick up that Goliath sculpt. Emailed Mr Simon and got an immediate response. Also looked at his current and older Rackham work. Wow, I think I may have a new favorite sculptor...

Wow, love your work. The painting is exceptional but it's the raised platform base I find fascinating, great idea.

Here a quick update of the captain base... I have polished the side with a dremel and a polishing paste... It worked like a charm, now clear as ... water!!! Quite happy for a first time! The top part of the base is still WIP.

What kind if resin did you use for the water and where did you purchase it? Also, how did you go about tinting the color of it? Thanks!

Demi I heard start out with a rough grit and move progressively to a finer, 1000 or so grit paper. And people I know if do it by hand.

Use the buffing wheel, NOT the grinding stone! LolYeah but I have to stop it it's getting a bit sore
