Bounty hunter paintathon - help me get an 8

This is the first of my bounty hunters. It\'s not what I originally envisioned for the model, but some of the parts I had for him went on bounty hunter #3 (bolter with drum, shock maul). As you can see, he is not fully glued yet, so I am open to suggestions.

I will be painting him over the weekend, hopefully with regular updates. I have pretty much decided on green for the torso, what colour would go with that? (I\'m thinking grey). Anyone know how to do good green (with examples and recipies)?

I\'m off out on the piss now, so I\'ll start tommorrow at around 11am. Any suggestions would be much appreciated (I\'ll check in for advice along with the updates).:)

Oh yeah, he will have holsters and a few extra details too.

Are you thinking of having a \"green\" green color, or more of an olive? And do you want really high contrast or bright stuff or gritty? What\'s the capital of the state of Hawaii?

Seriously, I like the look. It\'s not as dynamic as I might like it, but it has that \"old school\" feel to it. ^_^ I\'m also curious to see the face when I can make out more detail.

have you considered re-positioning the straight arm so that he is firing at a 30/45 degree angle from his body, and twisting the head so that he\'s looking in the direction of the shot?

also, continuing the padded vest down onto the legs a bit would help hide the join between legs and torso. wadaya think?

Very nice so far. I think that he either needs a belt to break up the torso or you need to bring the padded vest down as Capt spading sugested. Holsters will help add some umph to this. I think that the face is needing something as well, although I am not sure what.

I agree with Equus that he has that \"old school\" feel to it.

I am interested to see WIP\'s of this. :D

I would agree with a dark olive/green color for the torso. The boots black with a light or medium gray for the sleeves/coat. The right eye monocle red for contrast.

I have no skill for converting or utilizing greenstuff, but how about this. Either keep or remove the skulls and make the two rods on his back \"lightning rods\". Put a ball of greenstuff on the top of each rod and then an arc of electricity between the two. I am imagining something that looks similar to a Freakshow Juicer, if you have played the PC game City of Heroes.

ok thanks for the suggestions guys. I have made a few mods to the pic posted, I\'ll post a new pic when the light returns (I\'m using Damien Bloodhound\'s head, the current one looks a little large, I\'ve decided it suits the Kal Jericho body better).

Equus - definately going for an olive style green. I currently have DA green, snot green, goblin green, (gunship green, US drab, russian uniform, olive green, pastel green, all VMC). If anyone knows a good mix of those colours I would appreciate some suggestions.

Spalding - >>Slaps spalding around the cheeks and reminds him we\'re not all pro sculptors<< Seriously though, I\'m not quite at the stage that I can extend the torso armour (yeah yeah, I know I have to push myself if I\'m gonna learn :)) but it is already pinned and would probably need some filing. I could probably handle the arm sculpt, but I\'m pretty keen to start at first light. They are both excellent suggestions though, I am going to use them on another model (I have a couple of Jericho models and a Slick Devlan torso I can use, not sure about which legs yet).

Farstrider - I agree, I have a load of accessories to stick around the waist, I\'m going to select a few suitable bits tonight.

Jabberwocky - I\'m not sure that the rods are going to stay. The boots will definately be black though.

Any more colour suggestions gladly anticipated! I will update in the morning (about 11am GMT, 9hrs from now).:)

I guess my Tau are quite an olive green. I basecoated with Catachan Green then worked up to Camo Green, with final highlights going up to Rotting flesh.

I\'ve not tried out other brands of paints so can only offer advice for GW\'s. If I was doing an olive colour on your mini though I\'d suggest working up from Chaos Black, to Catachan Green, then instead of leaving this shading rather minimal as I did on my Tau I think it would probably suit the miniature better if you left more tonal range in the recesses. To do this you could gradually work more and more Camo Green into the highlights and then finish with only the most minimal amount of Rotting Flesh on the very highest points.

I\'d definitely get yourself some Camo Green though, I find its a rather nice and versatile colour.

Let me know what colours and method you go for in the end though if you don’t mind. I\'m interested to see how you get on because I\'m going to be painting a converted Red Gobbo (from Gorkamorka) soon and want him to have very olive coloured flesh.

Good luck with the painting.

hehehehe fair point :)

perhaps a belt then, to attatch the holsters etc....to.?

most of it would be obscured by pouches and stuff so it wouldn\'t be too tricky, esp if you did a flat belt bucle rather than the buckle with belt going through it thing.

Well unfortunately I didn\'t get anything done today. I will have to do the bulk of today\'s work when I get home from work. Anyway, here is what he looks like atm (without the holsters still).

Jambot - That\'s pretty close to the green I want, but I\'m going to try for something a bit darker. I will note down the mix for you.

Spalding - I think you\'re right, a belt will look good (and I think I can do a decrnt job of it in a fairly short time). I will definately add a belt. Do you think I should glue on the holsters first? (They will be just below his waist, running down his outer thighs (quads?), kind of to the front of his body as opposed to his sides/hips).

I\'ll post a new pic tonight, then he\'ll be getting undercoated and have a few colours slapped on before tommorrow morning\'s pic. I\'ll probably start with the metalics, as I plan on doing a quick drybrush on the pistols the chances are I\'ll have to touch up the undercoat afterwards.

:):)

best laid plans huh?

I much prefer the angle of the head on this one, gives the impression that he\'s back is against a wall and he\'s waiting for someone to come around a corner.

either way would work fine, although I would make the belt and then push the holsters into the green while it\'s still wet. This will give a better impression that the holsters are attatched to the belt itself. When the greens dry you can always pull the holsters off and then superglue them back in place for a better bond :)

If you want them slung a little lower than the belt you could always add two loops coming down from the belt and attatch the holsters to them.

keep us posted

Well, I didn\'t get much done again yesterday (I know what you\'re thinking - \"best paintathon ever!\"), but today the painting starts, hopefully should get a decent amount done.

The belt turned out ok, I decided to go with a button as the fastener. I\'ll update again in a few hours.

The weekend is here again! I have slapped on a few base colours to get a feel for the final look of the mini. I\'ll be able to fit in an hour of painting before I head out, hopefully the guns will get done (or maybe I\'ll finish the base colours).

This is a preview of the second bountyhunter (of 5).

Went with the base colours. Hopefully I\'ll be able to finish them when I get home (if I\'m not too pissed), then the real fun can begin.
