Went the other day with my family, had a great time and can highly recommend!
They have some awesome machines and because the museum is on an operational MOD base you see active tanks just driving down
the road (when one is next to your citroen picasso you realise how chuffing big they are LOL.

This is my daughter next to a 70 ton German Tiger 2 (King Tiger) - the mottled effect on the armor is a substance they used to stop magnetic
mines sticking to the side.

The museum has got the only operational tiger tank in the world and my god they are LOUD also brought some models to paint,
but when I opened them the quality was very poor, never painted military minis before so will have a go :)

All good fun!

Wish I could have gone too..lol. Tha anti=magnetic paste that is coated on a lot of late war German tanks is zimmerit:) Post more pics if you have them:)

Well you're in for fun, Tank modelling is a whole new ball of wax with Etched Brass replacement parts for damn near every Grill, Hatch, Periscope, Barrels (Turned Metal) and down to Individual linked tracks for some models.
One of the best suppliers for kits replacement parts is ABER, do a search on them then be prepared to need a strong cuppa after looking at pricing up parts.
People have been known to spend over a ton (£100) updating a £25 Tamiya kit.

From memory reading about the restoration the Bovington Tiger I it has a non original engine (From a Tiger II - probably the one in your picture) and a fire suppressant system in the engine bay - non standard - and they of course got it for nothing - so that would make the Tamiya kit with upgrades more expensive!

Hmm, I bet if they had put a modern diesel in it, it'd purr like a kitten, you could drive it past a daycare and wake nobody up ;) I wonder if you could get one to run as an electric hybrid? And fire suppression... wise.

As for accuracy-obsessed military modelers, hey we all have a hobby. But "that stuff" is why I (wisely) abandoned that hobby as a teen, I was like "Research? Buying books just to learn the right markings? Screw that, I wanna paint!"
