I've probably said something similar before, but I heartily recommend to painters to try and paint something out of their comfort zone from time to time.

Especially if you feel you have kind of a painters block.

So, if you do nothing but Fantasy minis, try something modern.

Nothing but Sci-Fi, try an Old West figure.

Etc. etc.

I'm working on some Cowboys now, and its fun on how it helps give me enthusiasm about it.

Have you 'broken free'. And if so, what were the results? Show us or tell us.

Well prior to getting back into the hobby it was all Space Marines. Even my first few attempts after returning were Space Marines. Then I discovered the CMON shop, and it's been all cleavage since then. LOL

A few things over the last Year or So;
Microarts Granny Ogg on Broomstick,
Black Scorpion Sherrif,
Malifaux Ophelia LaCroix
Musketeer miniatures WWI British Officer (Early war) Bleeding lovely sculpt on a 28mm historical miniature.
Microarts Studios Lady Ellendeanne.http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/lady-ellendeanne-p-545.html Another great sculpt, but with a serious design flaw.
The parasol is made of metal and is supported by the shaft. The shaft is too narrow to maintain a decent adhesion and consequently snaps.
The parasol should have been resin and the shaft a separate and stronger metal rod. (I ended up having to drill out and replace with a Dressmakers Pin through the top of the parasol and down the body).

Hey Mike, I've not seen a newly painted mini from you in some time? Do you post them on your website? I'd love to see them!

Funny you should mention Old West minis as i have just today finishished painting my first ones (the Younger brothers, from Blue Moon manufacturing) This has served as a nice break from doing either Flames of War (around 150 figs this year so far) or goblins (68 of the 'lil buggers, WFB and 40K) Ive also been tinkering around with a rather nice lady from that new Banelegions range, and this is the first time i have attempted painting boobs and lingerie, which is definately a refreshing change from the norm for me :)

I wonder if someone has sculpted something that meets ALL this criteria! It could be a best seller.

Just doing a big gladiator bust, it's the second time I try to paint a bust. It's quite fun, but not really my kind of thing... The fun of building a cool base is missing. :/

That's looking great Freakinacage! Is that from Dust? Not sure how legs would be effective on a battlefield, but I guess The Galactic Empire could answer that.

@Crackpot. Yeah! I'll feel cheated if you don't have a fantastic base to surround that!

Failing the Galactic Empire, just check with the Japanese, they seem obsessed with 'walkers'

Or at least my extensive experience of Playstation games would suggest that they are...:D
