Ok, folks...trolling for votes and a little help:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/index.php?id=29360&c=All&m=All&nm=none

Lessons I\'ve learned:

1.) Don\'t crop the photo so close/size the pic so big. I could probably cut the pick size in half and add a point to the vote. (Alternatively, I could learn to paint an order of magnitude cleaner.)

2.) Those eyes look real bad. How the heck do you guys do them? Maybe I should get a tech pen.

3.) Some detail work would help this guy. A pattern on the belt buckle...something on the horn...and something along the bottom of the cloak. If I added something like this in a quality similar to the rest of the mini, how much does that add to your vote?

Thanks!

You\'re right. You probably raise your vote by making the picture smaller, but I admire people brave enough to post clear, large, close-up views of thier minis.:)

Well, here\'s my two cents...

1) The photo loks too large now! A good resolution at 72 dpi is around 7-8 inches for a human sized mini.

2) Eyes are besy done by filling in black, then filling in white. Tech pens work okay, but you have to et used to them and by that time, I had learned how to do it with a brush better.

3) Once agina, you\'ve fallen into the pit of a muted color schem. There\'s basically three colors here: brown, green and off white. Brighter, warmer colros in moderation like red, ornage or yellow would help cut this up a bit.

As for getting more points, don\'t stress about it. Who\'s to say a fraction of a point is the difference between life and death? You need to attain that zen state where you don\'t care about the scores and then they will come to you..

The frog seeks not the fly, grasshopa! :p

Chrispy,

Thanks for the feedback. Particularly re: picture size...it\'s good to have some concrete #\'s.

Your point regarding the color scheme is well taken. I was back and forth on that point myself...in the end, I elected to go with a muted pallete. The mini is billed as a ranger, and that\'s just how I\'ve always pictured rangers.

On the other hand, what sort of ranger runs around tooting a horn? Dunno. Maybe he\'s just *holding* the horn for a friend.

No problem!
The horns are either used for calling the hounds, or drinking out of. This is why people in the middle ages were always drunk: You can\'t put down a drinking horn! :p

eyes...

The eyes aren\'t too bad right now.

They look a little\'cartoony\'. If you could paint a thin black or dark brown line underneath the eye, making it smaller, that would help tremendously.

In his new \"glowing-eyes\" state chrispy can look directly into your soul:eek:

ovus:as for your eye problem, i agree with chrispy. i also suggest doing the eyes first, and then the face. that way if your eyes are too big, you can simply go over the edges of them with your skin tone. also makes the eyes look more crisp. remember, even when your eyes are completely open, you can still see the lids.
