I hear a few years back some scientist\'s dug up one of the victoms of the 1916 flu pandemic in, I think it was Norway, and was able to get some of the actual frozen bacteria, re-animate it and voila!! They now have that horror in a \'controlled\' area...........

In California we\'ve known that the plague has not been wiped out for years now. We are told every summer not to feed the squirrels and bunnies as they carry the plague. That and rabies are the things I worry about the most out here in the desert.

The good thing is most animals here don\'t have fleas or lice because it\'s too dry for them. That keeps the spread of these diseases down.

i missed a programe i wanted to watch yesterday called \"strange days on planet earth\". all about what happens to evironments that lose their top order predetors.

theres a dam built in venezuela that has done away with all the top of the food chain leaving island pockets with the monkeys and iguanas left. notes the weird changes in behaviour and the local vegtation.

also notes that the aspen and willow trees in yellowstone were dying out but with the reindrotuction of the wolves they are making a comeback.

i guess that if there is a massive decline in the number of humans then the whole world might get a big makeover.

If you\'d seen how carefully \"controlled\" the controlled area is, I doubt you\'d worry as much. Not much can escape a Level 4 laboratory.

If you\'d seen how carefully \"controlled\" the controlled area is, I doubt you\'d worry as much. Not much can escape a Level 4 laboratory.

I\'d be rather more reassured if that read \"Nothing can escape a Level 4 laboratory\".

And Personally as one of the oldest still here, I\'ve given up worrying about what\'s going to kill me. With what time I may have left I\'d rather live my life.

Nah, I was thinking of the effect of the plague on the population. Not many people know what terrorism is, quite specifically, it\'s the sowing of terror, intentionally causing fear in a populace. And that would be the effect of dropping the plague into an area, terror.

Was such a thing to happen, people would start killing any creature that could harbour fleas, including their neighbour\'s dogs and cats. The sight of a plague-ridden body is repulsive, and would cause further disgust and terror. People fleeing an infested area would be shunned, and the area itself would die. Crime would escalate alarmingly.

Oh no, my good man, we quite agree, the plague would have a larger impact on the living, rather than the ones it kills. That\'s real terrorism.

Guys, there\'s a decent chance if you\'re descended from European stock that you\'re immune to plague (or resistant enough that you wouldn\'t die if infected). If you\'re from a different racial group, sorry, you\'re SOL.

Achem, influenza is caused by a virus (hence the futility of going to the doctor for antibiotics when you have it).

I watched the documentary about this; a couple of the scientists had last-minute reservations about continuing. The reaction to this made some of the best viewing in the whole thing - the worriers waited until they were on-site and just about to disinter, so little wonder it was met with a hostile reaction.

But my recollection is they didn\'t get a viable sample.

Am I the only one to remember that on 9/12 there was a massive alert as a vial of the Plague had gone missing, only to turn up a few hours later as the scientist working on it left it in his labcoat pocket and took it all the way home?
