Brush cleaning question

I would just get a brush soap, W&N do a good one, they are cheap and last along time.

Are you in the UK? If so i recommend Ken Bromley\'s art supplies.

Matty has it right, just brush soap will make a world of difference on your brushes. I\'ve used brush soap on a brush i thought was clean, as i could not see any paint on the bristles, and i was shocked by the amount of paint i cleaned form the brush.

Have to agree on both points, just saved a new-ish series 7 that had forked on me. I get all my brushes, mediums and such from Ken Bromley\'s as well.

I bought some \'BRUSH RESTORER\"...and put a handful of brushes in a shallow pan to let them soak flat for a day....

Well...I had some of the GW red handles brushes in there as well...and the freaking paint came off the handles, and globbed onto ALL the other brushes (including my Series 7\'s)....

I think they are ruined now...but maybe I;ll try again without the cheap brushes in there....

Vike DON\'T soak brushes in that stuff for long, it wicks up the brush and into the wood and well melts the paint right off the brush handels..its strong stuff.

I actually used the stuff to strip the paint off a Hero Clix mini once and that stuff is like liquid plastic they paint on.. nothing penetrates it and W&N brush restorer ate it off in minutes.

I find unless you brush is really full of old dryed paint, a mild soap is all you need to keep your brushes clean and happy.

Vikey, get a paper clamp (one of those small black springy things) and clip the brush so that just the hairs and about an eigth of an inch of the metal ferrule hang in the restorer, let set over night, then clean with brush soap. It will tarnish the metal ferrules and take the paint off of the handles (as you have found out the hard way.).
