Brush soap

I just bought a packet of really nice brushes and it came with a piece of brush soap. Now.... I wonder what this stuf is for I use brush cleaner to clean my brushes (I just read this again. Boy, does it sound stupid.) and have no idea how this block is to be used... draw the brush across it for cleaning purposes?

Brush soap? This is possibly the least stupid, stupid question I\'ve ever seen! I haven\'t got a clue but I thought the question deserved some recognition at least!

dependant on your brush cleaner this may dry out your brush. In the case of sable it was once on a living thing (some kind of ferret, badger or foxcat type animal) so treat it well as if it were your own hair shampoo it etc...repeat etc rinse etc. I have now got into the habit of using a conditioner on my brushes. However all that said I have not used shampoo or an soap on my hair for three years and it looks great .

Just rub your finger(wet prefferably) to and fro the edges till you get some soap on your thumb and then go with it in your brush of choice. That\'s how I understand you\'re supposed to use it.

Pink Soap. It\'s found in most good art stores near the brushes. Several companies make it, but thay all clean brushes extremely well. Mine even cleans dried paint and oils, it also puts the natural oils back into the brush, which is great for sables. Other hand soaps can damage the hair of the brush. I mean, would you use hand soap for shampoo? Most quality brushes are natural hair and it\'s the same thing.

Pink Soap for sure! Can\'t miss that big bottle of hot pink liquid with the picture of the Mona Lisa. Michaels sells it pretty cheap if you are on a budget. Works like a charm.

It will also clean all sorts of gunk off your hands too.

I found a product called brush conditioner, and it is a liquid (looks like liquid hand soap) Well, anyhow that stuff works pretty well. I even revived a few \"dead\" brushes with it.

Stuff I have is tan colored and comes in a small plastic container. It is not liquid, but is slightly softer than bar (body) soap. After I rinse out my brush, while it is still wet, I twirl it or pull it across this tan soap, pulling a nice point in the brush, then set it aside for the evening.
