BT Commander - for a competition

This is the model I plan on using for a painting competition. The model is magnetic but I can only use one pose for the submission. I have chosen my two favorite combinations and three poses -- I\'m hoping folks out there might be able to share opinions.

Overall I really like the dynamic feel I got with just the plastic marine bits. It really does look like he\'s looking down and to his left -- each combination providing a different feel for the pose.

Definatley number one in opinion, especially as he is atop a high and corky vantage point!

One or three- he\'s \'doing\' something with that sword, and therefore (IMO!) would be looking at where it was going.

Now this maybe a real girly or newbie thing to say, but for me, I prefer three- somehow a gun and a sword don\'t go together for me, but an axe and a sword do... as I said, that may be a girl thing or a newbie thing tho.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. To be honest I was torn mostly between 1 and 3.

In 1 he really seems to be looking down on a foe and declaring its death. The typical, \"My name is Marshall Rodriguez. You killed my father. Prepare to die.\" Maybe without so much cheese.

In 3 you get much the same feel -- he\'s looking at whatever the sword is point to -- only this time he\'s saying it with an axe.

I also have a couple of my resin bases sitting around and I may use one in place of the rock. I\'d originally made that base to use with a Kharn model -- and it still seems more appropriate for him. Dunno yet though.

I would pick the first one.

But the second is nice also. It gives the impression he is commanding his troops. Screaming something like: \"kill the heretics! for the emperor!!!!\"

I reckon 3, it has alot of movement, as if he is going lunge forward with the axe.

i like number 1.. More ralistic when the sword is pointing down.

1. Looks like he is above the action, threatening the enemy.

2. Looks like he is saying to his troops, \"conquer all you see\" or \'have at em boys\'.

3. He brought two blades to a gun fight? What the hell is wrong with this commander? or he is saying \"hold still, I can split that apple on your head with this ax...just don\'t move..\"

I like number 1 or 2

I like number 3 but I agree about the axe and sword combo being a bit daft. He needs a gun on him somewhere.

I like number 1 aswell but I dont like the storm bolter, its too big for a standard marine.

But all are cool.

I agree with Talonicus - I think #1 is the winning pose, but the storm bolter is a bit too much for me. Maybe the bolter from Azrael in it\'s place? It\'s nice and hefty, but not quite so Terminatorish.

I agree with Darthfoley, number 1 is the best pose, but the gun is too big for the mini. Distracts from the dynamic pose.

I picked a storm bolter because the model is magnetic and most of the BT lists I\'ve seen include one on the model. As I will probably sell this when it, and an appropriate assortment of arms, is complete I wanted to make sure I had the bases covered.

So far it\'s 2 close combat weapons and the storm bolter. I will probably include a plasma pistol, combi weapon and power fist option... but not in time for the competition.

Thanks again for the great feedback. I plan on going with option 1 at this point. Still deciding on the base, of course -- so I\'ll see about more shots before it comes time to paint him.

I hate plastic stormbolters, especially for competition figures. The oval shaped barrel is the main reason. The OO shape of the metal ones is way more realistic. They\'re not a big deal on Termis, but I think they just look way too chunky to be single-handed by a power armored figure.

Not from a fluff standpoint of course, but from a compositional standpoint I think they\'re just too damn big and you can\'t really go to town on them like you can on a plasma gun or another combat weapon or shield.

They also suck in game... minor details when it comes to a painting contest fig tho

Anti-stormbolter rant notwithstanding, I say either one with the sword pointing down is fine by me! I\'d really like to see a pistol or a regular boltgun in his gun arm tho. Not a fan of the plastic combi-bolters either... the metal ones have way more style to them.
