hey CMON...

here is my next job...
i have been tasked with recreating the pose and details on Tycho from the artwork in his Codex entry...
i have a feeling we are not allowed to post GW artwork on here, but needless to say it's a pretty cool drawing...

using all plastic parts, i will be able to get a less rigid looking pose than the old metal sculpt...
here are the first parts i chose to work with:

i have since chosen the heads, and had to change the piece i will be using for Tycho's left arm...
i started my mock-up to work out the height that Tycho will have to be at to stand on a dead Chaos Marine:

as you can see, the legs i chose worked out nice, with just one simple cut required to get my pose...

here are the next two stages of the mock-up:

DCTychoWIP4.jpg

that's it for now...
there will of course be a lot of little tweeks with the angles of everything, since everything is loose and unglued in these pics.

all i have to do now is choose the arms for the Chaos Marine, and build up the base around him so it doesn't look like Tycho just happened to find a cheesy little pinnacle of rock to stand and pose on...

so, arms on the CM, and shoulder pads for everyone, next time...

once the mock-up is all worked out, then the sculpting will begin...

thanks for lookin'...

cheers

My two cent. Wouldn't an Ork be more fluffy? If I remember the fluff, Tycho has a real hate-on for then.
But I guess if the Chaos Marine is the way to good, maybe shaving the backpack down, so it "sinks" the CM into the ground. That way you could lose some of the height on the rock formation. They did something like that in the "Emperor VS. Horus" diorama from the 80's (or was it the 90's?)
Also, don't forget the half mask. Just wouldn't be Tycho with out it. :smile-big:

@mud duck:yeah, Death Company Tycho should really have an Ork under his feet, as he fell to the Black Rage on Armageddon fighting the Orks...
we'll see if the customer likes that idea better...

he will definitely have his half-mask sculpted on...

@Freak: thanks for the pic...
i hadn't seen the colour version, but i knew it was the gold "normal" Tycho, just by the fact that he was standing on a CM...
such an awesome piece of artwork...
Adrian Smith has been one of my favorites since the Realms of Chaos books...

more pics soon...

cheers

like the conversion, i agree re the back pack file it down a tad so it looks like there's some real pressure being applied. you is onto a winna innit :) .

ooh almost forgot , nice picture ..but why does a melta gun need a pilot light? and that is a small head indeed lol "half a head" is an insult over here dont think that guy gets much stick tho lol.
