i'm workin' up the balls to sculpt his overcoat...
i've also been debating if i should detail his gauntlets with rivets or spikes (i think i'll go with rivets)...

i'll have some new pics on sunday...

hey CMON...

just a quick update...
i've been a bit busy with work for Dragonblood Minis, and been distracted by a shiny new Logan Grimnar...

yesterday i got a bit of work done on the sword, and made some rivets for the gauntlets...
unfortunately my glue chose to die, so the rivets will have to wait a couple of days...

i finished casting the little skulls for the belt...
if you look at the last update, you will see that the first two test skulls are way too fat...
they stick out like a sore thumb...
i have been sure to slice 'em nice and thin, and now Meph is ready for his coat...

unfortunately, the skulls will mostly be covered by the overcoat, but better safe than sorry...

thanks for lookin'...

I'm a little bit confused by this piece.. on the one hand I like it and the idea of updating a character is cool .. on the other for the amount of direct copy of the parts you've done wouldn't it have been easier to drill out the head on the original and replace it ???

I think looking at that last photo he's looking a touch dumpy at the moment ..

he does look fat, hahahahaha...

the chest was shaved down a lot, and the chest plate is very thin...
i will be careful about the thickness of the overcoat, as that has been the biggest stress from day one...
too thick look horrible anyway...
it has always bugged me that the bottom of cloak are so thick on minis...
in scale, it's like the hem is a foot thick on so many casts...

the wheels are turning in my head, and i should get the cloak and hair done this weekend...
then the elements should all jive finally...
all that will be left will be some fine details...

i'm lookin' forward to the painting stage, where i can really make him look good, or at least where i know what i'm doin', instead of groping in the dark;)...

hey CMON...

well, it's been about two weeks since i got any work in on this guy...
i've been too busy painting to struggle with greenstuff...

i got the arms finished...
the gauntlets have had the spikes added around the rim, and the shoulder pads have been glued on...

Mepharms1.jpg

now that i know how the shoulder pads will sit, i can sculpt the cloak...
i've made two rough forms to sculpt the cloak on...
since i don't know how to sculpt, i found it would be easier to make two rough flaps, and then cut them to shape...

Mephcloak.jpg

Mephcloak1.jpg

i've cut the flaps down to be quite thin, so when i sculpt the folds it's not too fat...
now i need to join the flaps at the back, sculpt some folds, and extend the cloak up the back...
then i will sculpt the collar...
the hair will come after that...

thanks for lookin'...

hey CMON...

well, after a month of bein' sick, and unable to work, i'm back at it...

i've not really had a chance to do a whole lot on this guy, but i wanted to keep it more or less a step-by-step...
this is the next bit of work...
the main body of the cloak has been finished, and just need some raised folds added to the back...
next i'll add the skulls to the front edges, and the cables that run from the front of the collar under his arms...

Mephcloak2.jpg

Mephcloak3.jpg

this is the backpack and servo-skull he'll be using...
i will add a plug to the end of the wire where i secured the skull to the backpack...
it should look like one of the cables is brushing across the backpack...

i'll get some work done on this guy tomorrow, and have a few more pics in a couple of days...

he's finally starting to come together...
i can't wait to paint this guy...

thanks for lookin'...

Heh. That Servitor Skull is one of my favorite bitz. I just found one in my box the other day and have been wondering what I should do with it.

You should take a new pic from the side so we can see how much thinner you made him.

hey CMON...

i'm almost finished with this guy...
i finally got balls to have a go at the hair...
i have no idea what i was doin', but it didn't turn out half bad...

the cables were also a bg question for me...
i didn't have guitar string, and a plain roll of greenstuff would have looked boring...
i settled for a happy medium between the two...

i just have to put the arms on so i can make the cables from the side of his collar, and then he should be ready for final adjustments and paint...

enjoy...
