Buying Paint

I'd like to buy a bunch of more paints, but here's my question...

Do you know of any place that sells 'our' kind of paint in sets, but I get to choose the colors in that set?

If I buy onsies, twosies, it ends up being more than I wanna spend.

I tend to use lots of 'earthy colors' so those colors get used up fast, and I'm stuck with lots of almost unused bright colors. So, I don't want to buy a set that has bright colors or even metallics.

Anyone seen any deals like that? Individual paints at a 'boxed set' price, but I get to choose what's in it?

I haven't seen a set where you can choose your own colours but the FoW sets from Vallejo are very nice earthy colours all of them(except for a few in the Quartermaster's set where they have the basic red, blue and yellow which aren't as toned down as the rest). They are very nice varied sets since there's one basic set of colours and then there's a set of colours for each "team".

Here they are

You really can't beat Vallejo for the earth tones. Though Reaper master series was a close runner up for color chose and at Gencon they where doing a bulk price with a mix and match option. I don't know if it was just a con thing but you can all ways check their site :)

Thanks for the answers guys!

A great bunch of possibilities for me there.

I like the looks of those FoW colors...

@Einion. I've not even heard of those before. Is this something you've used?

@Genryu...Exactly what i was looking for...I'll have to figure out if that shipping makes it prohibitive.

Thanks all!

It's practically all I use now where I want the paint to dry matt (although I'm working on a demo piece at the moment where I'm not using them at all which I'll be posting here later).

These are matt-finish acrylics, in plastic tubes, available in artists' colours as well as a range of mixed colours that you might find useful if you don't want to have to make everything from scratch. They've been mentioned a few times over the years, most recently here and here (check out my price comparison in the first link).

Prices for them are usually best on Dick Blick so it's generally the place I recommend for ordering them online. Various links including to their page on Dick Blick in this post from a couple of weeks back on pF.

Staying at the cheap end, also worth considering are Blick's matte acrylics which might be a little above the quality of your standard craft paints (these sometimes aren't bad at all either and are especially worth serious consideration for white, black and earth colours).

If you're not used to Dick Blick the link on the left of each colour goes to a photo of a swatch of the actual paint.

On this, created a new thread here.
