By the gods, I'm so very late! ( Featuring GW and NMM)

Hi Y'all!
I'm happy to be posting something new, after another absence. This is, I think the mini who took the longest time for me to complete, both in shelf time and painting hours.
NMM is something that was very hard for me to learn, and I still have much to practice on this. I thin the result, while being technically imperfect remains visually interesting, and overall this is not a bad piece by my standards.

Anyway I'll let you be the judge of it :)

Definitely visually interesting.

Is that ALL NMM? There are spots that look amazingly metal like.

Well done, glad to see you're back.

Really nice overall but awesome result on the gold, the upper bridal looks especially crisp and incredibly real.

Thanks folk, glad to see you like it.
Yes, It's indeed all NMM, took me a bunch of hours too, but the fact you say it look like metal means it's succesfull so it's worth it.
I got a lot of positive comments about the gems, and I also like the gold ( What's a bridal?) too bad I can't seem to remember the recipe :p

It doesn't seem to take CMON's fancy tough, can't even break a 7.

It looks really nice.

I think there are parts of the NMM that are done really well but other parts that look like less time has been spent on them.

The points that strike me as a viewer of the piece when I first looked at it and more so when I looked again, were the face of the rider, the horse's face (head) and the horse's mane / tail / hoof hair and the rider's gloves.

When compared to the other parts of the mini they look neglected to me at least. They don't have the "Pop factor" that the NMM on the bridal has and so they don't stand out on the mini.

Personally I think the highlights on the gloves and face should be taken up a notch and pushed further so that they remain the focal point of the mini rather than your eyes being drawn almost entirely to the NMM.

My main qualm is the horse hair and his gloves, which just look flat in comparison to the rest of the figure.

For the above reasons I think your not hitting a high score on the voting part.

That is just my own opinion though, and over all I think it's a very nicely done piece.

Happy painting!

Thanks for the pointers Skraaal, that'll surely prove very useful.
I agree on most of it, looking back I figure I was so focused on getting the NMM right that I forgot the big picture. I think there are too many focal points and no real flow to it.
There was actually some time spent on the mane, but the pop got lost along the way, it's the part I'm the least satisfied with. I kinda liked the face, but it does fade out compared to the helm just beside it.
Learning, learning, learning :)

aspects are good, and then others really let the model down. thats why people give it 7s and 6s, but it looks like there are some really nice pieces here, unfortunately there are peices that are of the 5 standard. thefor i would have to give it a 7 and not an 8. the gems arcoss the front are of a 9 model. but then the dirt below the base looks lik putty jabbed with a stick, and painted with no contrast, as well as the horses fur and skin, doesn't look any better then a 6 or 5
model and then the sword is of a 7 model. nice solid sword.
that explains the rating,
7 from me, a nice model, but needs to be more consistently good for an 8+
keep pushing yourself

look at this model, im sure you have seen it before, but what makes it great is that every little detail of the model is painted to the same high lvl, that way you can feast your eyes, and not just like certain parts. alot of this hobby is attention to detail. making sure everything is perfect. thats why it takes so long to paint a super high lvl model.

I still cant do it great yet, at golden demon with year i thought to myself at times, hey my model is so much better then that one, and i asked the judges why that one did better then mine, and he said its because yours is inconsistent. he said the skin on your model is probably the best in the category, could win gold, but then other parts look left and are not as good, therefor even though that model has no aspects as good as your skin, it is more consistent and therefor it did better then yours.

Another excellent comment, consistency is very important.
It's not really by lack of care tough, it's more that I didn't succeed to render those bits at the same level, all the more dissapointing I guess.

But you got me there, the bottom is putty that I jabbed with a stick :p

I always struggled with pics, sometimes I think I got this right, but when I put them up, they're lacking sharpness or vivacity...

By the way, if I'm to compare myself to Valten, I might get somewhat depressed, lol.

Edit: Thanks for the submission comment Skelly :)

It's gorgeous, GO. The metals look amazing, I'm still impressed by the yellows, but I think my favorite part is something a bit more subtle. Horses are hard to paint anytime, and the dappled flank on this guy is spot on. I've never seen it done better.

Absolutely beautiful.
