Granddad!
..I\'m so sad, had to have my dog put to sleep this morning.
:(:(:(
she was over 12 but it was really hard to let her go :(:(
but it was the right decision, she could hardly walk, everything was failing inside her, not eating properly
:(:(:(
incontinent, problems breathing......

Really sorry for you! :( It\'s a hard thing to do, but as you say... there was no decent alternative. I still remember how I felt when we had to put our dog to sleep, for pretty much the same reasons, even though it was many, many years ago.

We have a 14yr old black lab who looked on his way last year, so we got a third dog (Alaskan Malamute) so that our fox hound would not pine... and lab is now full of life a year later, but does struggle on long walks.

my condolences and sympathies. not looking fwd to the day we have to do same.:cry:

Really sorry for you....

Had to make the same decision for our yellow lab about seven years ago, that last day or so after we\'d made the decision but before we went to the vet was probably one of the hardest days of my life.

Folks who haven\'t grown up with dogs often don\'t understand just how close you can become to them.

As others have said... just take comfort in knowing you did the right thing.

Awwwwwww.........now that looks like a real poochie. The gentle kind of dog that\'s your faithful buddie. Sorry for your loss. Them animals have a kind of love that\'s so soothing, simple. Grieve the loss, get a puppy, the love goes both ways. There\'s a puppy looking for you.

I\'m sorry for you mick... bella Really looks like she was a Great companion... just got that look, of a great dog and friend.

I grew up with a dog... from when i was born, he was only a puppy and watched me in the crib and barked at people who came in... and he was with me, from then, for 14 years, till i had to put him to sleep...

he was too old and it hurt all the time, things were just stopping working in him... even stopped recognising people he had known for years. everyone but me. never forgot me. and i had to put the thing i cared about most down :cry:

So trust me, i know what its like.
Could be a good idea, like the others have said, to get a Puppy... someone to fill that hole. although it might be a little while to be ready for that, having had Bella in your life for a long time... its a good thing to do when you\'re ready though, meet a new friend.... :)

My condolences Mick. Losing a pet sucks. I\'ve had a dog and a rabbit put to sleep.

The dog was a West Highland Terrier (crossed with something). We got him when he was already about 7 or 8 years old. We had him for 5 or 6 years before he lost his eyesight very suddenly.

He had slowed down a little in his old age but other than that he was ok. However once he lost his eyesight he started to knock into walls and furniture inside as he couldn\'t see where he was going. It seemed cruel to let that continue to happen to him so we had to have him put to sleep. That was about 7 years ago and I just got tears in my eyes writing about it now. :(

I\'m terribly sorry for your loss. About a year ago we had to put down my first pet, a golden retriever named Lucky. He had gotten too old and was no longer eating. I really miss him sometimes, but I know he\'s in a better place.
