Ok, i modeled and painted a Shadowrun character for a friend off of his suggestions and am getting low scores and no comments. So i\'m asking for \'em, nice and mean... everything\'s welcome. i thought it was darn good for 95% scratch built and the colors were picked out by my friend and painted by me.

Here it is; http://www.coolminiornot.com/58912.

I don\'t particularly like the sculpt. The legs are too short, the coat looks like half of it is missing and frankly, his potatoe head is silly. Eyes are too big and unsymmetrical and he has almost no forehead at all.
What definitely hurts your score though is the grainy, dark, unfocused pic.
Paint job looks clean, if a little too harshly blacklined. The coat could use another highlight.

The face (both sculpt and paintjob) is killing your score.

Being halfway through my own first sculpt, I understand how hard it is to do, but the voters here are really harsh, most probably vote without reading and hence don\'t even know you sculpted it.

What\'s harsh about my paint job? i really don\'t see it and thought i\'d taken all the advice on how to paint a face, but something\'s still wrong? Any good examples of what to imulate that you could point me towards? Thanks:)

Is it just that one view you don\'t like the legs in, or is it the model in general? More views can be found here. And i agree with you on the face and coat. The face was my third and best try and the coat was made like that so it didn\'t end up looking like an anime character.

OK, hopefully this will be a more useful post.

The sculpt is pretty good for a first go. The face is actually kind of characterful, but it is also kind of cartoony, some people won\'t like that. The paint job on the face is OK, but the blacklining on the eyes is quite harsh, use a dark redish brown instead. His cheeks and lips look a little too pink, try using a reddish brown instead for the lips.

I think Gypsy means the coat looks like it wouldn\'t be big enough to do up at the front, it really needs to come round further foward just under the lapels.

Hopefully thios will help with your next sculpt.

Don\'t be discouraged, we are spoilt here by greens from people who sculpt for a living (Gael, SJB etc etc)., so peoples expectations are very hoigh. If you look at Chris Fitzpatricks first sculpt in harbinger 9 its really not that good, and look at him now.

Oh ok...

So make the black lining look more like shadow hitting skin tones rather than black lines. *feels silly (i TOTALLY missunderstood that termlol*
Ok, yeah, i see what you\'re saying about the coat. i modeled it after a picture and wasn\'t really thinking about that. Gotta keep myself more logical when i work. Thanks again, i\'ve got two more faces to go and i\'ll keep your post in mind while i do it.

Trevor practically answered for me, so I don\'t have to do that anymore. Thanks, heh.

What might help with sculpting is looking at an anatomy book. See if you can find something like that in your local library or something.

I quite like it...

I hope this doesn\'t sound harsh, but I think it has a wonderful Wallace and Grommet feel about it. There are hundreds of folk out there selling \'evil\' baddies but very few with a slightly claymation approach...If it is (one of) your first attempts, it is extremely good.

Thanks... i guess

hehehe
i didn\'t mean for it to have a claymation feel, but i\'ll take it as a complement. i\'ve used green stuff for repair work, but this was my first sculpt ever (minus the guns). Yeah, when i get some time i\'ll pick up a drawing anatamy book. Thanks for the suggest, i know it\'ll help.
