Calles Myrmidon, a venture into the world of OSL, zenith highlighting and nmm

Hello ladies and gentlemen! Let me be the first to welcome you to my little workspace of forced growth.
As you can see in my uploaded photos, i'm a mediocre painter at best, (kinda forced when you play orks, with so much to paint...)
Due to me moving on to parenthood in the not far off future, me and a mate have decided to start playing warmachines, as the games tend to be shorter.

I decided to start retribution of scyrah, as their warjacks (called myrmidons) are unlike anything I've ever painted.
I've decided to take the time and challenge myself, and learn new techniques to take my painting to a new level.
Since warmachines is a skirmish game with a low model count, I've deemed it doable.

So, here's my plan: today I bought a heavy myrmidon. They can be assembled in three diferent ways, so I've decided to magnetize the options, so I can swap around untill I've decided on the best one. That work will start tomorrow, by cleaning the parts, and magnetizing it on saturday/sunday, aswell as reading up on OSL (green glowing runes), zenith highlighting, and how to paint white/grey marble. Beyond this, I'm aiming for the official paintjob, or rather my interpretation of it.

Here's the "official" paintjob on the model: http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/retribution-of-scyrah/warjacks/phoenix

Beginning next week, Im buying a medium light grey, a light grey, and a white paint bottle, to load in my airbrush.
First, I'll basecoat the model with medium light grey. Do highlights by airbrushing a lighrter grey, at a 135 degree angle over it, and finally a white burst from straight above. (this'll be a first, as I've only ever used my crappy airbrush for basecoating.)

Next step, is to do some casts of the runes, basecoat 'em in the light grey, and start practicing OSL in the runes, and how to make the rest look like marble.
Finally, I'm going to cut up some sprue into blades, to practice nmm on.

That's the plan atleast. The main trouble I see, is how to keep the highlights, for whence the armour is made to resemble marble??? Thoughts? Ideas?

I'll try to post regular updates, to document my (hopefully) imrovement during this little odyssey into the for me unsailed waters of miniature painting.

/Calle
