Campain or Pick-up Game

Hello,

I am doing a little market research for a new miniature game that I\'m trying to start and the question that I am asking is would most games prefer a campain based system or a pick-up game system? I was orginally going for a campain based system but before I continue I would like to hear from you the potential customer.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Phoenix

I prefer pick-up game system because you can play against anyone at any givin time and sometimes campains are too juch commitment for some people

Most mini games I own, which is quite a few include rules for both. I suggest doing the same.

Have rules for ongoing campaigns and ways for models to improve or change over time, and include rules for setting up a quick game with standard troops.

EDIT: just realized I didn\'t actually answer your question. I actually prefer campaign games, but due to my schedule I usually only have time for Pick Up Games. So my answer is I would prefer a campaign game but it would just sit on a shelf and I would never actually play it.

I usually play pick up games because of time constraints. I would suggest planning a p/u game with rules to enable a campaign if desired.

Cake or Death?
I like campaign systems, but I play p/u games a lot more. I like the previous idea of having both, but I\'d be more willing to buy if the game supported a p/u play style.

Pick up /Single shot games are most easiest I find as a campaign involves a commitment I can\'t always agree to due to work commitments.

I just want to thank everyone for their feedback. I do realize that a campaign based system would require a commitment and I do plan on having both sets of rules for the game. How many of you pick up gamers would play a campaign style game that doesn\'t have to take \"years\" to complete. To give a little insight to my idea, I was going to base it off a map that you would create, and you would fight over territories. So that way the map can be as big or as small as you would like. You would gain experiance based on if your army won or not, therefore being able to improve your troops which would carry over into the pick up game realm. Would that make it easier to play? And again I would have rules for a pick up game too.

I always liked games that are played as one off\'s but can be linked together in a campaign fashion if you wanted.

Games like:

Space Hulk
Warhammer quest.

Sounds like Mighty Empires (the original at least, I have no idea how the new one plays).

Space Hulk and Heroquest are good examples. The original Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader to me is a better one. It had all the rules the current 40K does but also had rules for characters that got wounded, advanced and improved and for awarding point to spend after winning a game to improve your army. Another one that comes to mind is Mordhiem for Campaign play, though there aren\'t really rules for pick up play, you can easily just set a gold limit and each build a force and play.
