Back when I was a kid and we had one T.V. my mum used to watch eastenders on a sunday afternoon. It gave me headaches and it always seemed to be gloomy outside.

Isn't London full of Aussies, Kiwis and South Africans anyway? Unless this play is set in the 1940's pretty much any accent would pass for a 'native' Londoner.
Unless the actual lines are written in cockney, then no matter what you will end up sounding like the legendary DVanD. Even English folk doing cockney accents is lousey.

Got an email last night from the director. Says that they might look at trying different accents (Deep South, New York, etc) since most people can't do an English one. For me it's a moot point, however. While I did get a part, it's the smallest role in the play and I don't think I even have any lines; probably be more like a moving stage prop or something.
But it's all good. I get to be on stage, working with some actors that I've worked with before and continuing to learn as much as I can about acting.
On side - and related - note: one of the board members for the Playhouse asked me if I would be interested in attending a community theater convention next month here in Nebraska. I said sure since it seems like a good chance to meet other actors and possibly find things that will help me improve.
Turns out that a few select theaters will be performing a short one-act play. The board member - who will also direct - asked me and one actress to be in it. Pretty cool to be chosen out of so many (much more talented) actors to represent our local acting troupe at a convention.
Oh, and one final thing: I was nominated for two "Yorkies" (the local equivalent of the Tonys); one for Best New Actor and one for Best Lead Actor.
I didn't win either one. Still, cool to be nominated.
