Can you align into engagement?

What happens when an engaged unit aligns as part of a melee attack so that it is in contact with another enemy unit? Is that unit now engaged by 2 enemy units? Can the unit that aligned attack the enemy unit that it just came into contact with by aligning instead of attacking the original unit it was engaged with?

Here is the situation that happened in a recent game. The Blackguard in the center aligned 50% to the left before their attack.

This situation would only be possible if the units were in precisely and exactly the right positions to allow them to re-align against their current enemy at 50/100% and then be exactly a distance from the enemy where they contacted, but did not overlap, their tray. Eg, there is only one geomatical instance this can occur, otherwise the tray would 1. end overlapping (which it cannot do) or 2. It would not be in contact. This is an instance where millimeters matter. In this exact situation I would rule the alignment illegal, due to the opposing tray.
