We are allways neutral and never take a stand in important issues without being absolutely sure that it can\'t give rise to any negative emotions at all. We have a good amount of Lutheran workmoral which means that we are an ideal country for capitalism to grow. Criminals are never evil they are just betrayed by the society. We are all blond and tall. There\'s a lot of polarbears walking around.. in fact I\'m watching one right now helping an old blind lady across the street. Basically we have the same uses for polarbears as other people have for dogs. And once I wrestled a moose and gutted him with my pocketknife. And then the state came and distributed all the meat amongs the not-so-poor in equal slices. We all rejoiced. What a lovely day it was.

Brilliant! :)

What can I say, the U.S. is the Games Workshop of the \'real world\', complete with its good, bad and ugly.

The occident is defined as western world(more specifically those of European descent, which means the Americas and Europe), so who do you think is surpassing Europe and the Americas in thinking? Just curious.

Well, I would say there are very interesting things going on in scandinavia, culturally and technologically ( Clean technology, this exist you know..) a lot in Japan, too... The computer revolution in many eastern european countries is something we better watch closely, they pick-up fast...

In history, the flame of humanity has been passed along between countries, the balance shifts, never settles for more than a few decennies; maybe america had it, it\'s gone now, to where I\'m not sure, but it\'s not in Canada I can tell you that.

Anyway, for the future, the scope of evolution has changed, we\'re not looking at global community evolution but individual and groups evolution, which makes sense in the greater scheme...

(sigh) This is getting a little tiresome. \"Oh, no. I\'m terrified that some ignoramus off the street is going to set national policy.\"

Every country has idiots.
Every country has geniuses.

Stand in the street with a calculus problem and a camcorder and you could just as easily make any given population look like they know advanced mathematics given enough interviews.

I hope I didn\'t come off as not caring. My point was that it has become \'good sport\' to do so. Certainly, my paltry words won\'t change bias or to some ignorance.

America is all those things you say, and then some. It\'s got bad sides too.

I have come to the point that where I have stopped caring about what they say.

It is shocking to me to think someone would actually form an opinion, or become disturbed by a comedy television program. A program that was obviously edited, and possibly staged to make Americans look dumb as possible. But, since that is the \'en vogue\' sport, its all readily believable, and happily consumed.

I think my country is not perfect, but it is the best in the world

here\'s where you\'re wrong, having the highest GDP doesnt mean that your country is the \"best\", there\'s loads of nice countries in the world, pick up any of the microstates and look how people live in there, obviously the GDP is lower but the counties are damn smaller as well, the comparison should be the earning per capita. Anyway i dont think money is the ONLY factor to say a country is better than another (or the BEST in your case)

And sorry if you felt insulted, i just posted the video to share opinions, afterall i didnt give my opinion of it, and i didnt make it....
And you said that your country has got to have some clever people: of course! but its also true that the US pays people from ALL over the world, and provide them a home and high wages to go there for investigation, there\'s a great bunch of people in the US from different places... and i think it happens the same in US than the rest of the world, there are clever and stupid people, but \"geographycally\" talking, maybe being the 1st (not the best) country in the world makes you forget where the rest of the world is... i think i read a 60% of US population couldnt even place their own country in the worl\'s map.... hope you\'re of the other 40% ;)

PS. and in the same way, when i was in one of my student exchanges in US (ive been in 3 so far) and asked if i knew what a fridge was (and i tell you they were not kidding) it makes you think that maybe some people in US should learn a little bit more about the rest of the world and not treat the others (with no purpose, indeed, they were all so nice people) like poor people or something.

:)

I\'m sorry, but I have to laugh at how seriously people take this - I mean the original clip. People, it\'s a clip done for a comedy show!!! Do you honestly think it represents a typical cross section of the population??? Do you think that maybe, just maybe, they might have edited out all the unfunny answers??? It worries me that people watch this kind of stuff and think it\'s somehow \"news\". \"Ho ho ho! See this! THIs proves that the average (insert whatever country you wnat herre) person is an idiot.\" People, it\'s comedy, not news. Anyone who can\'t tell teh difference is probably teh person we should be careful of. And I see it all the time. In this country, it really scares me how many people think \"The Daily Show\" is actually a news program!!!

Carry on with your arguements now :D

I agree with HakoMike and Dauber that this is not a serious study and is edited to look funny.
And they\'re are geniuses and Idiots in every country.
I know idiots, but none like these folks in the interview, the idiots I know are funny idiots that are no menace to anyone. Each of these guys probably voted, you know, and it\'s no wonder who they voted for;)

You should know better than to believe everything you read.

Honestly, this is all a bunch of bigoted nonsense. Bigoted from both sides of the argument.

Absolutely right!

The world would be a sad place though if people didn\'t love their countries and either openly or secretly think that they were \'the best\'.:D After all, that\'s what flags and National Anthems etc. are all about???

St. Austell is the hub of the universe and it\'s only a matter of time before you lot come to realise this...:bouncy:

Oh..and I can think of something bad about Sweden...your beer is extortionate! How does anyone ever get drunk in your country???

Two thoughts...

1. They haven\'t build up the \'tolerance\' level you have achieved...

2. Maybe after the 1st or 2nd one, they switch to substandard beer. Always drink your good stuff first!!!

Actually..

..I think they might just pop across to Finland where the booze flows like water and alcoholism is a way of life....I have often thought of emigrating, but it is a bit too cold for my liking.:innocent:

I definitely think it is a good thing to have national pride (even us terrible Americans). Don\'t get me wrong, I think being a blind follower is just idiotic (you must think for yourself). I hope no one thought I was being a bigot, just by saying I like my country best, I didn\'t actually put any other countries down. I may think the U.S. is the best place in the world, but I\'m sure someone in France, U.K., Canada, etc.. may think that theirs is the best. We don\'t have to agree, but just respect each others opinions. The numbers I quoted were not to say that GDP or military might makes a country better, but I was just refuting the so-called stupidity of Americans.

I believe the bigoted, evil rhetoric is acting like 60% of Americans are idiots and have no culture of consequence, just because you don\'t like some U.S. political policy (some of which I disagree with, and some I completely agree with). After all, I am American, my family is American, and most of my close friends are American, therefore you must be saying at least 60% of my friends and family are idiots with no culture, which I think most people would take at least some offense to. In fact if someone from another country said it to my face or my friends faces over here, I\'m sure they\'d get punched, and they\'d deserve it.

Captnarcissisto: in the same way that i should learn not to believe everything i read you should learn to read my posts again and check where i did say that 60% of the Americans were idiots. I NEVER said that, and i have been respectful all the time trying to express the best i can, i have not insulted anyone, i have just exposed why i didnt think a country could be called the BEST for their economy.
And, by the way, i like the USA very much, maybe any of you couldnt notice because of how this topic has derivated in such a stupid way.

PS: and in case i had said 60% of the americans were stupid, the implication you are making saying 60% of your friend must be as well doesnt work, because you should know stadistics can vary depending on the representitivity of the group you use to study, and maybe the 60% (lets say 1%, dont want to take you out of your nerves) of the americans who cant place US in the map are mostly the poorest people who have not had the chance to go to a good school. SO in conclusion in no way from any sentence of mine you can deduce i am saying 60% of your friends are stupid, which i am sure is not true :)

If you say that is not what you meant, then I can accept that, although it was a little upsetting when you asked me if I was the 40% of my country that can point the U.S. out on a map (seemed like an insult to me). Maybe it was a joke I didn\'t get. I hope so. These types of thread still make me mad though.

p.s. I\'m not as angry as my avatar looks.

In all that bull**** we need to remember that it\'s not the people that are \'good or bad or better\' they\'re often just misleaded by \'bad or worst or awfully-tyrannic\' leaders.
I think the best leaders are those of dull or lazy or poor countries, cause they really cannot do much harm...

Here we\'re confronted to childish misuse of big f**king bombs, that seems pretty harmful to me.
Anyway, if you guys don\'t feel safe anymore in your own country, feel free to come here whenever you like, we\'ll party;)

@Albert: I guess I\'m the one who first derivated this subject in a stupid way...:(
So I deleted the first post I made.
Guess it\'s too late now...

It is interesting to see this thread develop without any of the usual combatants.

CNNN would have spoken to a hundred people and chosen the half dozen funniest. Unfortunately they are probably the people who shouldn\'t be allowed to speak to strangers. Watching the clip I\'d be willing to bet none of them have ever voted.

I usually weigh in on this type of thread. It is just the same thing all over again. Nothing changes. My forhead get\'s a bit sore from banging into the wall.
