can you paint over varnish

have got a model thats been varnished (matt) but wanted to alter a bit. will it paint over ok and hold that colour?

Lots of modellers paint over a layer of varnish and generally there are no problems.

I find that glazing over matt varnish is difficult (at least over dullcoat), but painting over it is no problem at all.

Yeah, I\'ve done it several times for the scratched paint technic and you shouldn\'t have any problem if your varnish usually applies well.

It\'s actually recommended for any metallics. Also with soft plastic minis a coat of varnish will help keep the shape and prevent parts from bending.

I often use a light coat of varnish mid paint just to help ease the wear and tear on the mini during the painting process.

Don\'t touch the mini during painting! If you don\'t touch it, there\'s no wear....
