Can you trigger 'Sentinel' if the defending unit was destroyed?

This has caused some debate on Discord so I'm hoping to get an OFFICIAL answer (or even just highlight the issue for inclusion in a future FAQ).

ORDER: SENTINEL
After another friendly unit in Long Range is Attacked:
This unit performs 1 Charge or Maneuver Action. If Charging, it must target the Attacker.

If the defending unit is destroyed by the attack is the unit with the Sentinel Order able to trigger this or would it not work because the defender is destroyed and thus no longer on the table (and within 'Long Range')?

The rule as written States "after another friendly unit is attacked". Destroyed or not this effect would trigger if the unit was destroyed as a result of an attack. The first bold section would be the trigger to use the units ability, tactic cards are the same, At the start of any turn, would be the trigger to use the card. After a friendly unit is attacked you can make a maneuver or charge the attacking unit regardless of whether or not the unit is destroyed.

Hope this helps!

The unit is destroyed before the attack is completed which is what causes the issue. Better to wait for an official response as people are making arguments both ways.

I can see where the confusion comes from. Whether or not a unit is destroyed, it was still a friendly unit that was attacked resulting in the unit being destroyed l. I can see why some say no however, this would result in clarification of all tactics cards with a similar trigger. It comes off as if the unit was Attacked. If the unit is destroyed by a non attack then no it would not trigger. Also, it depends where in the sequence orders are given. Can the order be used before damage is resolved and the unit is on the table.

The issue is that at the time the trigger happens, the unit is off the board, and therefore isn't within long range.
