the grey on the trousers is the etch primer I use just a light coating there fox. I plan to make it camouflage like the box art so I can hopefully sell it once I'm done so I can buy MORE minis the new 40k box is very exciting it would be my 1st big box purchase. But I still need to paint my space hulk minis oh neck moat of us do more collecting than painting haha.
the free hand is only 1/2 free hand the actual shape is part of the metal so it's just a case of pay ting within the shape and going it a bit of variation.

As jarhead put it - plinths are all personal preference. As long as the bust can stay standing up in its plinth without toppling over its all good.

For me, I don't like the plinth to be wider than the bust's shoulders. Height can vary depending on the type of plinth it is; round, angled top, flat top, fancy looking wood, etc. Basically, you don't want the plinth to be so bulky it overshadows the bust.

I actually just made a plinth for the bust I'm about to do. I cut a pill bottle at a 45 degree angle, glued two 35mm wood discs together and used a ring of milliput to affix the bottle to the wood, then filled the inside with plaster for some weight.
There's space between the wood discs and the bottle for a little flair, otherwise you don't need the wood at all.

Great work on the bust. And I don't know why I never thought of using a 3D printer for plinths. The type of printer I could afford would be absolute rubbish for minis, but plinths would come out great. I'll have to look into this.
