Canon cameras advice

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
I\'ve quite liked my old canon IXUS, but its starting to get old (only 2M pixels) and I\'m thinking of replacing it.

What I\'d like to know is can anyone recommend any of the current canons? Or suggest ones to steer clear of?

I\'m looking at getting something similar to the one I have (ie small, with the metal casing). And, yes, I\'ve read the A630 review here, I don\'t think its quite what I want.

I use a 510 and it works great! I\'ve used several HP cameras in the past and this thing really takes the cake.

I\'m in the process of getting a new camera too... I\'ve been looking at the Canon SD800 (although I\'ve now narrowed it down to the Canon S3 IS or the Sony DSC H5)

The SD800 seems to fit your description though... small, metal case and quite decent reviews (here\'s one - http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_sd800-review/index.shtml)

I got a canon eos 300 digital SLR. But i still need to make room for a proper set-up to photograph my minis. thats still a work in progress. before this camera I had a powershot 320 which i really liked, very easy to handle when taking pics of small things like minis

I have a Canon EOS Rebel SLR (8.1MP)and it works miracles with pics. It has a 18-35mm lens with selective AF/MF. Has all the settings needed for mini painting as far as manually adjusting aperture and shutter speed. All you need is a tripod and some lighting for perfect mini pics. Stock it cost me $540.00 (with military discount) but it would still run you a good 700.00 at least in the US. They have plenty of cameras without digital zoom within the 400-700 dollar range that would work great for this... Hope that helps! :drunk:

I\'ve just bought a Nikon D50 SLR and am looking for a decent macro lens... which are you guys using (or going to get)? I was looking at a Sigma 105mm or a Tamron 90mm - the thing is, I\'m not sure I\'ll need 1:1 magnification for photographing minis... I was also looking at the Sigma 70-300mm APO macro, which is 1:2 magnification and seems to have more utility as a general lens too (and is quite a bit cheaper than the other 2).
