Car, bus or bicycle...

I dunno, guys and gals...I\'ve been known to bike 15 miles to get to school, about an hour\'s trip. It works just fine if you leave the time to do it, you just have to assiduously plan ahead. And be a bit loony, I suppose... :bouncy:

never had a car and never plan to have one.
Always walk everywhere, and use public transport for longer journeys.
At the moment, it\'s about 45-60 min walk into town which isn\'t too big a deal. Buses are reasonably regular if we\'re carrying anything heavy.
It\'s a 35 min walk to work - and when it gets lighter I\'m going to start cycling (maybe - traffic kinda scares me).

I must say its totally worth it for the downhills though, they are totally bitchin.. the other day it was chucking it down with rain so i just took all my clothes off except my trowsers (pants) and rode all the way home like that. That was an awsome (but extreamly cold) trip... (might i add that i removed my back mud guard that morning...)

Then the Liverpool Transport system to Birkenhead.
Total travel time one way 3:30.
By Bus....................don\'t make me laugh.

I\'ve got a driving lesson in half hour, so you can see where my bread is buttered at the moment. I spend about 8hrs a week on buses and I sometimes cycle the 16-17 mile round-trip on a mountain bike just because I can
However, I\'ll be saving myself 1.5hrs a day almost by driving, so when I buy my little runabout I\'ll split my time between car and bike (or bus if I\'m heading for an ale after work)

It should be obvious from the picture (urban setting) that this is mostly about towns and cities and the relevant congestion. Nobody is suggesting that people give up their cars entirely, but I\'d like it if people who could bus it, walk or ride a bike should leave the car at home as much as possible.
After all, give it a few years (far fewer than we might think) - you might not have a choice!

Have to admit, I drive to work everyday although I could take the bike, cause it\'s just about 2-3 miles. :redface:
When I am in cologne (my girlfriend lives there) we mostly take the subway or the bus. It\'s faster an cheaper than with the car. I don\'t know how it is in other cities, but here in germany it\'s most of the time a pain in the a$$ to find a proper parking lot. And if you finally found one you become poor cause of the horrendous parking charge.

We have a couple of ECO-Fascists who tried to give me grief for driving into work once. Only once!
I have No Problem with Cycling into Work, in fact in some circumstances it makes a lot more sense than Cars or Buses.
But since I can\'t (distance) and am no longer able (Balance Damage) I don\'t see why I should be given S**t when I get into work by a couple of self important, blinkered, wooly jumper wearing, tree hugging wasters.

If it were viable, I\'d love to merely hop on a bus or train and get to work in the 20-30 minutes it takes me. I\'d love to not have to pay for gas, insurance, car note.
Make it efficient and economical, I\'d do it in a heartbeat.
I don\'t see that happening. Especially since the more people who stop using their personal vehicles the less money the government gets from taxes on gas, meaning they will merely start raising bus fares and whatnot to make up for that loss.
