saw this come up the other day, and after rereading the rules, it isn't particularly clear:
In order to charge "...must have space for the attacker's tray to align 50% contact with the target's tray without being obstructed by another unit/terrain"
so for infantry units charging infantry units, this is pretty simple as the trays will still both be 50% aligned (perhaps not in a flank arc though...) however, when charging something like a solo, or a monster tray... which tray must be 50% covered? the attacker? the Defender? it seems silly that a wide infantry tray only needs its tiny little corner in contact for example if they align 50% to the front of a solo monster. but this is possible if the attacking tray only has to cover 50% of the defender. however it would NOT be possible if 50% of the attacking unit needs to be covered (meaning it would essentially always have to 100% cover a side of a solo tray...
